Very Quiet

The thing I like about this drive is that it's quiet. No annoying clicking or whining noises like I've heard from some other brands. I am going to stick with Western Digital from now on.

The best hard drive i have ever had. Super fast, and even scores 5.6 Performance Index on Vista. Great quality and really quiet. Could you want more? Will definatly be going with Western Digital again! Brilliant.

Not quiet

I brought 2 of these for a new system, I brought them because the reviews said they were quiet, they are not quiet, they are fast and well built but not quiet. I've always previously used Seagate drives but reviews said these were good. If you are consious about noise I wouldn't go for the Western Digital, if you want speed they're not bad

The drive is very silent and quick BUT when testing speeds with software like HD tune the speeds are reporting 75mb max so its not getting no where near the 300mb speed sata II is suppose to be able to do.

How to fix non-recognition
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

I've been trying to get this working on my girlfriends Acer PC and it wasn't shwoing up in the BIOS. After lots of searching I found a solution which involves setting the drive to work at 150mbs so that it is recognised by older chipsets such as the VIA one used in this PC.

It's unfortunate that I've had to do this but it works.
