My Review!

After having this gym for a few weeks I have finally got round to assembling it. The instruction manual unfortunately is not that great, the step by step is more of an exploded view, so it can be confusing as to what to piece together first. The other thing that was a bit of an issue was the list of parts and their quantities, this did not always match up, however I did have a few spares once I finished. One tip is not to tighten everything up until you've finished, this way if you have put a longer bolt somewhere where you shouldn't have then it's easy and quick to change it. The plus point is that nearly all of the bolts are the same size just different lengths.

The build quality was very good and much better than I thought it would be, it is very solid and there are a few nice accessories, such as different hand/leg attachments for the cable clips (not sure of the appropriate names).

The movement of the main press is nice and smoothe and doesn't make any 'clonking sounds', both of the seats are nice and comfy and fully adjustable. The range of exercises is really good and there is even a nice plaque that can be attached to the side with some examples on it. I noticed someone asking whether the butterflies are any good, well yes it is. What the picture doesn't show very well is that there are another set of arms on hinges which clip onto the main brace. So when they are unclipped the motion has a very wide angle, hope that makes sense!

The last thing worth mentioning and probably one of the most important is the weight stack. There are alot of blocks but the great thing is that the total weight is 200lbs, or 90kg. This I believe will give the system a bit of a longer life, obviously depending on how strong you are!

One thing that may be a problem, not just on this but other systems too is that getting spare parts may be an issue. The manual does recommend replacing the cables every year and I am not sure how easy it will be to get. Maybe ebuyer could provide spares, or provide contact information as to where to get them from?!

All in all, very pleased, great machine and highly recommended.

great value for money, excellent functioning.

this machine is truly worth every penny that you pay for it. although there are two things i would like to highlight abou this product. the instruction manual is not the easiest to read, and also the parts list does not always match up the quantity that it displays. i think both those points were highlighted in a previous review.

in addition, when i had finish the set up, i found that the cable did not reazch the weights fully, and therefore leaving about an inch gap, this just means i cannot use the full 96kg worth of weights, which is indeed, more than the 200lb's stated. but i can use the highlighted 200lb's (90kg's)

anyone who has bought this item and seen this problem also, please do write about it.

overview: good value, good build quality, worth it.

Regards,

Derek

never used one of these before so am not speaking from a position of knowledge.

gonna give it 5 stars as this for the money delivered is very good value and seems like a well built bit of equipment. i agree with the review of 30/1/08 and also dereks review.

this took me over 3 and a bit evenings about 9/10 hours to build, which i think with better instructions and the bolt useage being a bit easier to understand could of been halfed or better.

does anyone know what the small bolt is for or where it goes please?

i also have the gap in the weights, i tried adjusting then removing the ajusting bolt but that didnt work. in time i may try to pack the weights from underneath but as by my reconing theres 211 lbs of weights here, im not in any particular rush to make use of the last 6kg weight

all in all im happy with it and the price

Very Good Value

This is a good, solid peice of equipment, smooth and quiet too. As in previous reviews I have to say that the instructions are pretty poor but assembly is very straight forward. This is the third gym I have owned through the years and it is by far the best and cheapest. The only disappointment I have is that the discription says that you can do standing squats but so far I cant work out how. If anyone can help with this I would be very grateful...

Hey Matt,

thank you for the advice, ill certainly look into that.

and in agreement with another post, i can not see anywhere to do standing squats, or tricep extensions, but i have that covered because i have a barbell and 80kg's worth of free weights.

as much as this is a great machine, it has it's limitations when it comes to bicep curls and other small ROM moves. still a great machine though.

ill post the exact measurments tomorow for the person asking.

This gym is definitely worth purchasing if you are after a low cost, good quality home gym for basic exercises.

Although as mentioned in most other reviews the instructions are very poor, be patient and take a bit of time over it and you will have a good, solid piece of equipment. It is quicker to build if you get someone to help you too, as certain sections need holding in place whilst bolts are fitted.

I also ended up with a gap between the first weight plate and the rest, as the cable isn't quite long enough, but this shouldn't be a problem unless you desperately need to use the bottom 6kg plate (out of a total of 96kg). The gap doesn't affect operation of the gym.

As far as the exercises go, this gym works very well for the chest press, rows, flyes, pulldowns, leg extension and leg curl. Also upright rows work well, tricep pushdowns are ok and a sort of shoulder press is possible with seat adjustment and a change in body angle, but it does feel more like you've done an incline press in terms of which muscles feel 'worked'. The curl is not very good and there is no way of doing squats.

I bought this gym to complement my free weights training (squats, deadlifts, clean & jerk, press etc.) and it works very well in this way, also allowing me the option of easily reducing training intensity when I need a lighter workout (more frequently now that i'm getting on a bit!). So, for the serious bodybuilder or strength trainer the gym works very well alongside heavy barbell/dumbell exercises.

For those who enjoy training but are not serious iron-heads this gym could be all they need - it certainly has enough weight and exercises to keep this kind of person happy, and the whole stack can be used with all exercises.

A very good value buy.

Smooth,Effective and versatile.

Poor instructions but I assembled it fairly easily in four hours.

I recommend that you buy it - I also recommend you type 518ci in google and use the first pdf link as a manual.

Of course I got the google idea AFTER I Assembled it *slaps forehead*. Its slightly different - but everything you need to do before use it is the same. The rest you can attach or detach afterwards.

Hope this helps!

size and instructions

It's a robust piece of kit. Stands about 2.1 metres high, 1 metre wide, 1.65 metres in length but you'll probably need a total of 2 metres to allow for the leg exercises.

It took my son and me about 5 hours to construct. The parts list in the instructions doesn't quite match the parts you receive, some of the parts diagrams are misnumbered and some parts are misdescribed or missed altogether.

If you get the same as me here are some tips.

Number the bolts etc whilst still on the shrink wrapped card to correspond to the numbers used in the diagrams.

You will probably find you have 6 M12 bolts that aren't on the parts list. They go through the bushes on pivots at the end of the main arms used for bench press, pectoral fly etc - these bolts are wrongly numbered 59 on the instruction diagram step 3. The clue is that the daigram asks you to use a nut item 69 (whish is an M12 nut. The same error occurs at the pivot point for the swinging leg exercises arm at the front of the machine.

Item 51*2 are described as bolts but in my package were grub screws (same place same function as in the instructions.

When you are following the instructions for putting the second cable on follow fig.7 before fig.6. They've got these in the wrong order.

I think the two bushes that are in the shrink wrap packages are to be used when attaching the retaining hook to the front of the machine. the numbering is to pot on that bit of the diagram.

Cable length
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

Hi Derek,

I didn't find an issue with the cables hence why I didn't mention it in my review.

Initially I fitted the plastic piece that goes on top of the weights incorrectly which didn't allow the cable and the rod to reach the bottom of the stack. I realised that the first weight should be fitted above the rod so when you lift the weights at least one will raise.

The only other thing maybe the adjustment screw so the press arm can be closer to the main frame.

Matt
