Fujitsu SnapScan S510
review by: Anonymous os: Windows Vista

I did write a nice long review, but the site timed out and its lost. So maybe you wouldnt be interested anyway but just in case...

If like me you dont like chucking paperwork out, but are running out of space to save it, then do yourself a favour and buy one of these.
IT IS BRILL!
Scanned over 200 pages this evening - takes them through at a rapid rate - scanning BOTH SIDES at once (how does such a diddy little thing do that?) and then if you want to, creates SEARCHABLE pdfs. This does take longer (maybe 20 - 60 seconds each sheet) but then you can search your whole lot and find exactly what you are looking for.

This is so good my shredder has overheated and is sulking! (Hope it works again when its cooled down - otherwise Ill be asking Bill Morrison for another one - More reasons to take stuff back to Morrisons!)

I havent yet tried all the options - scan to Word, to Excel to Powerpoint, to Email etc, but they are there if you need them.

My only whinge is that saving scans to folders is NOT as easy as it should be - instead of a Save in (or find folder) option after or as part of the scan process, you have to create a folder, or sub-folder and then choose the 'Options' menu and then 'save in' - so this now becomes the default folder. Which is a bit of a pain, but hardly difficult! Maybe somewhere there is an easier way - and Im just being stupid?

I know Ive mentioned this already but just in case you missed it. This is a tiny bit of kit! It looks more like a portable printer than a scanner! I wondered where Id put it on my desktop, but it fits neatly on my tower unit.

If you need to throw away papers but dont want to lose whats on them, I think this might be the answer to your problems.

For info I paid £318 in August 07 - as Id waited 2 months for this as the older S500 is not designed for Vista and as far as I know the version of Acrobat with the S500 wont work. The S510, with Acrobat 8 Standard works a treat!

the other reviewer had a problem saving to folders?

simply drag and drop the newly scanned pdf(s) to the respective folder(s) which are always displayed on the left of the screen when scanning

to create a new customer/client/subject folder ..

you can do this very quickly by just clicking on the toolbar filing cabinet icon (top left hand side) to create a new blank client/customer folder

also it has a neat business card scan facility - just scan the card and it drops the name/tel/fax numbers in different database fields .. really neat... instantly creating a contact name/number database (with a scan of the card as well)

This product is so easy to use...absolutely simple. Feed multiple pages in press one butoon it scans them..both sides...removes the blanks pages then asks you what you want to do...send mail...bosh done....an idiot can do it...sure it does lots of other clever stuff!!! You get adobe acrobat standard with it too...very good.
