This HDD IS quiet

I disagree with the 1st comment. This HDD IS much quieter than the replaced Hitachi HD from my laptop.

My laptop is used day and night and the difference between the old and the new one in terms of sound is quite evident.
A well recommended upgrade.

Excellent upgrade

I have recently fitted this drive to my Compaq Evo N610C as a replacement for the original 30GB drive. No problems at all with fitting it and it is very much quieter than the old drive so with 4 times the capacity a very worthwhile upgrade. One word of caution, don't attempt the task unless you have the correct (very small) cross head and torx screwdrivers.

Occasional loud clicking noise when drive is idle
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

Just thought I would post a quick comment for anybody who has heard a strange clunk noise from their drive when idle or anybody about to buy this drive. Take a look at the following link:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=168425

It explains that the hard disk when idle attemps to park the heads, but in the process makes a noise as if the hard disk is faulty, I highly recommend following the tips in the link as the noise was driving me insane thinking the disk was about to fail any minute.

It also makes the drive even quieter but reduces the battery life of the laptop.

Hopefully this helps somebody pulling their hair out like me thinking a brand new disk was faulty!

So much for quiet...

So much for "the quietest 2.5-inch drive on the market" as the product description says. I couldn't hear my old laptop's hard disk at all, but this one is significantly louder. Sure, it's still quieter than my desktop's main disk, but I think that "quietest on the market" claim is rather bogus.

Other than that, I've had no problems with the disk; I just wish it were slightly quieter...
