Good quality, good price

os: Windows XP

I have this set up at home with three computers running from it. Monitors and controls voltages perfectly, and gives about 10-15 minutes backup time on a power cut. The transformer hums so loudly that you shouldn't need the alarm sound, but a tap of the front power switch stops the beeps!

It includes the quality UPSilon 2000 software which can be customised for auto-shutdown, auto-saving and so on, and one PC can use this to monitor the UPS using a USB connection. As I have three PCs the other two use the main's monitoring through a tidy piece of software (made by the same company, Megatec, as UPSilon) called ClientMate.

http://www.icamview.com/pub/pub/netagent%20utility/clientmate.v3.6.zip

This allows the other PCs to detect a power cut and begin the shutdown process. Both bits of software allow you to set it to automatically cancel the shutdown on resumption of power.

Try to wait for the cheaper leads (QF: 107709) to be in stock as otherwise you may as well get them in Maplin (for 4 quid). The 4-ways (108325) are also handy. Finally, the advice is not to connect a laser printer to the UPS as it can overload it and trigger the shutdown!

Specifications from the manual
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

Seeing as Ebuyer have listed the same specifications for nearly all the units, here are the specs from the manual.

I wouldn't have purchased the 1200VA unit if I had known that the slightly more expensive 1500VA unit would last nearly twice as long with the same load.

4 stars since this 1200VA unit doesn't offer much over the 1000VA unit. Output is higher but as the batteries are the same unless you are using maximum load your run time will be identical.

UPS-500 (300W), UPS-650(390W)

1 x 12V 7Ah battery

330l x 85w x 155h

6.5Kg

UPS-1000(600w), UPS1200(720W)

2 x 12V 7Ah battery

300l x 120w x 195h

13.2Kg

UPS-1500(900W)

4 x 12V 7Ah battery

415l x 150w x 230h

21.2Kg

UPS-2000(1200W)

4 x 12V 7.2Ah battery

415l x 150w x 230h

24.7Kg

Tell me about the hum
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

Hi I am keen to buy this but am worried about the hum - is this all the time, or only when the battery power has kicked in? Also does it support Vista? Many thanks to whoever can help

Reply to Hum

"Hi I am keen to buy this but am worried about the hum - is this all the time, or only when the battery power has kicked in? Also does it support Vista?"

The humming is only when the power cuts - at other times it is silent (or as near as you can get - I suppose there is a very slight noise in the background when the PCs are off in a silent room. It's not noticeable above my P182 case with a few Xilence silent fans, which is itself very quiet).

I have tried it on 32 and 64 bit versions of both XP and Vista, and it works on all of them.
