Multi-Region Hack
review by: Anonymous os: Max OSX

This appears to be a fabulous machine. Sets up very easily and DVD playback quality is excellent. I haven't had a chance to explore all of the other features but so far so good.

The only problem I encountered was that it did not arrive Multi-region as advertised. I managed to find the hack online and wanted to share it so that it is easier for other buyers to make their players multi-region.

1. Switch on TV.

2. Switch on Ellion.

3. Open DVD Drawer.

4. Press 'source' on Ellion remote control and select DV Controller or scart (not tv).

5. Enter 7 7 0 on remote.

6. 'Region free' should appear at bottom of screen after a few seconds.

Also, the default password is 1 2 3 4. It is in the manual but it took a bit of looking for me to find it.

DVR 950H dual, not DVR 950S, better again.

Ordered Monday, delivered Wed am,-thanks ebuyer & Citylink. Feels solid built. In the box is the DVR 950H dual. Some confusion as manual does not mention recording to -R discs, but it does record to + & -DVR.With a 250gig HD price is great value. Lots of connectors, but dont see DIVX mentioned. Had a TV picture problem at first until I found it works from the aux scart of my sat box, unlike my Liteon which worked connected to the TV scart on sat box.A new disc brings up a formatting dialogue, yes or cancel; seems easy to cancel by mistake. The two scart sockets are very close and some cable types obstruct each other.Very happy with it as replacement for my Liteon that was screwing up recordings.Thank you Elion & ebuyer!
Scart & video cables included, also one +R disc. One year warranty.

Is this? Seen references suggesting it may be, but the description here doesn't say it is..

DivX aspect ratio?
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

I can confirm DivX does work on this machine, although it doesnt appear you can change the aspect ratio and end up with a video full screen width, but only 1/3 of the height. Anyone any ideas on how to fix this?

No HD Editing
review by: Anonymous rating:

Bought this as a replacement for my Lite-On, which wouldn't recognise +-RW's after 11 months. It ticks all the expected boxes for this type of unit - 250GB HD / DVD +- RW, DivX playback, etc, but on arrival I found that it is not possible to edit an HD recording (split/combine/chapters, etc). Whilst you can edit a DVD recording, an HD recording can only be renamed or deleted, which does not help if the HD recording is greater than the capacity of the DVD. My previous recorder allowed you to cut and combine both DVD and HD recordings, but the Ellion does not.

Also, I found the DVD capacity to be very limited. At HQ you get only 42 mins per disc, so no chance of transferring a 1-hour program onto DVD if you use HQ as the recording default. I also didn't like the fact that when in time shift or record mode, there is an icon displayed on the TV, which you can't hide.

All in all, this is a very cheap item with a massive HD and DVD recording capability (hence the three stars), but if you want the ability to split/combine HD files, then look for another unit.
