Excellent - and quite confused by the first review...!
os:
Not ApplicableI'm really quite confused by the first review - there most certainly IS an SD-slot in my Tom Tom One - it's in the base! I bought my Tom Tom from Carphone Warehouse for 149 pounds as I was landing in Galway airport at 11pm and then had to drive 100 miles across unmarked roads....
So far, we've found the unit excellent. Based in London, it marks just about every speed / red light camera (great!), but what I found it fantastic for was showing me the road ahead as I was motoring across Ireland in the dark - made my driving smoother, faster and far, far safer.
I must agree that there are times when it gets roads wrong - it tries to get you to drive across Ealing Common where a road may have existed (looking at the trees) 30 or 40 years ago, but no trace of it exists any more! That's about the only thing it's got wrong though.
99.9% of the time, it's spot on. We use it constantly - we've just been to a fireworks display in an area we know well, and yet it showed us short cuts we didn't know existed!
The most impressive thing, for me, is the speed with which it recalculates when you go off route. We've got both a Compaq iPaq with NavMan and a HTC GPS mobile with CoPilot GPS on it - they take ages to recognise when you go off course, giving 'turn around' instructions for sometimes most of the journey! The Tom Tom, by comparison, calculates within about 5 seconds of going off route - excellent!
I love the 'find alternative' option. Stuck in traffic? Just click this option and a new route will be plotted, diverting you down side roads and away from traffic queues...
It's easy to use, I can't really comment on Points of Interest as we've hardly used them - but when we have they've been quite good. I agree, the thought had crossed my mind that people could abuse the update feature - I just hope Tom Tom verify any changes before implementing them.
A nice touch (which we've yet to try as we don't want to pay the optional monthly subscription) is the option to link your TomTom to your mobile by bluetooth and receive live travel news as you're motoring. Impressive if it works - sure it will, as the system seems very good.
Tom Tom review (continued!)

Not Applicable(continued review from below)
The unit generally picks up satellites very quickly although it can take a couple of minutes some time.
One other feature I really quite like is the fact that it can be set to show not only your speed, but the actual speed limit of the road that you're on. We've even chosen to set an alarm - if we go over 10% of the speed limit, it sounds an alarm (a clown 'honk' in our case!). It's great for late night journeys on the motorway when you may not realise your speed is creeping up and you're too tired to keep your eyes peeled for Mr Plod sitting on a bridge in the dark with his little camera.
Overall, it's certainly by far the best GPS unit I've used. We've lent it to two friends, too - and both went out and bought one on returning it to us. What more can I say!
Five out of Five - if you want a superb GPS unit, easy to use and accurate (for most of the time), this has to be considered. For just a little extra you can buy the European version (we didn't bother), seems good value if you drive abroad.
No point paying out more unless you want to get features like using the GPS unit as a bluetooth handsfree unit for your mobile - my brother's TomTom does this - great, but I'd get a separate kit.
Only two poor comments - no mains charger in the box (but it charges via USB, so I use my mobile charger or you can just charge it in the car as you go)
Secondly, not TomTom's fault, but be aware that if you have certain heat reflective windscreens (my brother's Renault Megane did), you will need the external antennae for a decent signal. That was with an older TomTom though, I haven't tried our TomTom One in Megane, so can't comment on if this unit has improved on performance in this way or not.
Conclusion
If you're looking for a GPS unit, you've got to have a really good reason not to buy this one
security pin
anyone know how to set a password or security pin on this device? so that whenever its switched on it will ask for a pin. ive tried installing the pc software and going through the menus but cant find this option. thanks
Best SATNAV in the world

Not ApplicableI love driving and navigating by map so was a little skeptical about trusting electronics. Wow - what a revelation. I've covered many parts of the UK and France and never needed to consult a map - truly brilliant. The amount of stress this machine avoids in unbelievable. Just sit back, listen to the directions and enjoy the journey! Best part - if you are forced to take a detour, it so quickly re-maps you from where you currently are. i never cease to be amazed. Don't hesitate - buy it - you won't regret it!
TOMTOM ONE UK + Irland Upgrade to Western Europe

I am stuck here cos I want to add western Europe map but afried to try cos i feel it won't work.

Windows XPGreat piece of kit, picks up satellite's really quickly in around 30 seconds. no real delay in the directions around 80ms which is excellent for GPS.
Haven't got around to checking the speed camera alerts yet. simple and easy to use interface. plans your route instantly and also re directs if you take a wrong turn. Decent Battery Life. Great how you can update maps and speed camera locations for free. Previously had a Road Angel which I had to pay for updates. Overall I cant fault it Yet.....

Windows XPWell done Ebuyer, great price. I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else. Product also arrived two days early which is a nice bonus.
Works straight out the box, recalulates routes very quickly if turning missed etc. Clear instructions. At this price I doubt you'll find such quality in competitors. Whole range of accessories avalible including a TDC - RDS ariel for free life time traffic updates, which i'm now waiting for Ebuyer to stock.
A must buy for anyone after a good value, easy to use Sat-Nav.
Just to help...
I have had a TomTom One for over a year - Version 2! which has got an SD Card in the Base. VERSION 2 and VERSION 3 LOOK PRETTY MUCH THE SAME.
If the comment from the guy who bought his in the carphone warehouse is correct about a slot in the base is correct - THEN HE BOUGHT A VERSION 2.
If you want Maps of Europe with the TOMTOM Version 3 - THEN BUY THE EUROPE VERSION UP FRONT - DON'T GET THE UK VERSION 3 AS IT HAS NEITHER THE STORAGE CAPACITY OR ABILITY TO UPGRADE TO A CAPACITY BIG ENOUGH TO CONTAIN WESTERN EUROPE MAPS INCLUDING UK.
This TOMTOM ONE here for sale is the VERSION THREE which has NO SD SLOT. As such you are limited to the 512KB Memory contained within the Device, which means in practice that you cannot upgrade this device to have bigger memory. I was able to do this with my TOMTOM ONE V2 and add the Europe Maps and the US Maps. SD Cards are pretty cheap nowadays.
THIS PRICE FOR THE V3 FROM EBUYER IS MARKET LEADING AS NORMAL....
