Linux system build
No problems with using this case, but I just want to comment that when using the
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Socket AM2 (2.2GHz) Energy Efficient 1MB L2 Cache OEM Processor
with
OCZ OCZTVEND CPU Cooler For Sockets AMD 754/755/939/AM2, Intel LGA775
I had to remove the side panel air duct that normally provides a direct air inlet for the processor cooling fan. This isn't a problem as it's attached by screws.
After that everything fits inside OK.
I like the clipped on expansion slot blanking plates, that just slide off very easily rather than having to break them off like some I've seen in the past.
And the Earthwatts power supply is great too. My old P4 system is like a fan heater around the back. With the fanless Asus graphics card, this system is almost inaudible and the exhaust air coming out of the back and the top of the case above the power supply feels cold.
Quiet case and value for money
os:
Windows XPThis is a good case, unfortunately I did not find it to be as silent as promised. Nevertheless, it is quiet.
The case is of good quality, although the side panels fall off easily so it's best to remove both of them if you are installing components. There is space between the side panels and the main chassis that could be filled with acoustic foam if desired.
The instructions could have a few more details about which screw to use where, etc. However, most people who build their own machines know what they're doing - you might need some advice if this is the first case you buy. Requires a socket set or a very small spanner to install the motherboard supports, a crosshead screwdriver and nibble fingers!
The EarthWatts power supply IS silent! I have read (via Antec's website) that it is manufactured by Seasonic and branded Antec (Hardware Secrets review of EarthWatts 500), so, if you're looking into getting a Seasonic power supply and a case, think about getting this combo, for only about 10 GBP more!
Unfortunately the case fan prevents the case from getting 5 stars. Antec has included a TriCool 120 mm fan with the case, which uses a switch to select the three speed settings (my version didn't have a mobo control). But even the lowest setting (1200 RPM) produces 25 dBA of noise! And it's not white noise, it's an annoying hum (presumably at 1.2 kHz - in the most sensitive range of human hearing). Do yourself a favour, buy the case and change the fan, and then you'll be happy with a near-silent PC! (I took a fan out of my old case that did the trick.)
