22 inch monitor market killer
review by: Anonymous rating:

Decided to upgrade my 19 inch Samsung 913n. Ordered Wednesday, arrived Thursday. Model sent was 245BW not the 245B as ordered - the only difference is the glossy bezel on the 245BW vs the matt bezel on the 245B. I prefer the glossy version. The box had clearly been opened, there were fingerprints on the screen and bezel and two of the plastic bags were clumsily re-sealed. Not a great start. I plugged it up (via DVI), switched it on and ... superb! Zero dead pixels and vivid colours. I needed to turn the brightness down otherwise it was fine straight out of the box.

I needed a larger monitor for programming and office work and I was concerned that the pixel size (smaller than on my Samsung 913n) may make reading text harder on a 24 inch so I seriously considered getting a 22 inch (larger pixel size than a 24 inch but smaller than on my 913n) instead. I am really glad I did not. The superb clarity of this screen, although having a smaller dot pitch, makes text more, not less, readable than on my Samsung 913n. This monitor (the first to have a 24 inch TN panel) will do enormous damage to the 22 inch monitor market. An absolutely superb machine for a steal of a price. Five stars.

Superb Value

I have just bought the Samsung Sm245B to replace the excellent Viewsonic VX922, as well as being a superb gaming monitor it also had a low response time of 2ms.

I really needed a monitor that could match or better the Viewsonic. The reason i changed is because my 19" viewsonic was getting used more and more for the Xbox360, it just wasnt big enough.

Comparing the screens side by side i can confidentaly say that the samsung beats my old viewsonic hands down.

My biggest concern was with the response time if the samsung, i can safely say that there is no noticable blur or ghosting with the samsung.

Image quality is also top notch, running 1900x1200 within windows looks super sharp and incredibly detailed. PC games like COD4 suffer no ghosting or any issues.

Doing a simple google search for calibrating the samsung will give you some good settings to use.

After tweaking the monitor i have found it to give a far natural colour balance, superb sharpness and clarity.

Gaming on the 360 is so much better now. With the VGA cable i can run the 360 at 1920x1080 with no issues at all. GTA4 looks natural and detailed and Euro 2008 looks fantastically sharp with nice green pitches and of course no ghosting.

I couldnt get the monitor to scale properly with the 360, edges were missing and it wouldnt run at 1920x1080.

Thankfully i found a tip on the internet that suggested i change to 1280x1024 and confirm, then change to 1920x1080 and when it asks if you would like to keep the changes select no.

Weirdly enough this works, now the monitor displays 360 games in 1080 and its awesome.

I am very picky when it come to picture quality, being in the television trade had taught me what to look for and what not to look for.

I have no regrets in buying the Samsung SM245b and would definately recommend to anyone who was looking for a good quality 24" monitor.

Hope this helps :-)

Very Impressed. Massive Screen.

Have had this for about a week now and am very impressed so far. For starters the screen is huge. Great for watching moves and tv episodes on. Excellent for games too, my graphics card isn't quite up to running games at native resolution but they look just fine scaled down. Running windows at 1920x1200 and picture is very crisp

Had been a reluctant before buying because of comments about viewing angles in reviews, but to be honest I don't think they are any worse/different than any other flat panel I have had previously.

Would definately recommend.

Bought my monitor on Sunday evening and received it on Tuesday, took it out the box and was impressed by the size and it did not weigh that much as i expected it to. Very easy to set up out of the box and the resolution on gaming, video is excellent. Only my first day but impressed by samsung quality product.

A great monitor. Dont let anyone tell you size doesnt matter. With the resolution at 1920 x 1200 I can at last really read or work on documents etc.. side by side on the screen. Plenty of tilt and up and down adjustment.
Comes with driver for XP but have to go on the internet for Vista, no problem there.
Pixel perfect and crystal clear using DVI. Comes with cables for both connection types.
For the price fantastic value.

My third Samsung monitor and have to say am just as impressed as I have been on the previous two occasions.

Absolute quality in terms of build, looks and functionality. A breeze to use with the standard easy to use Samsung controls.

What more can I say!!! Bravo Samsung!!!

SM245B : Great picture, no dead pixels, build quality looks very good, very easy to adjust vertical height, and spin about to change viewing angle. Superb value for money

Agree with all other reviewers' comments

Ebuyer: very quick, arrived next day

Monitor: set up in <5mins, no dead pixels, picture is superb. Had a 19" TFT before and was considering the Dell 30", but with the Samsung 24" on my desk, I see now that would have serious overkill. Excellent piece of kit for the money and a bit cheaper here than on other comparable sites I've looked at.

Re: the question on HDCP - it has got it (at least the DVI connector on the monitor is marked HDCP so I assume it has, but I'm using a d-sub)

This is a great monitor. No dead pixels, clear colours and no smearing at all. The monitor is so large you can easily work on two applications or documents simultaneously.

For games, it is fantastic; whether with the native 1900x1200 resolution or non-native lower resolutions - I can't say that I saw any picture quality impact when using non-native resloutions

The only downside was with the stock settings the whites were so bright that they hurt my eyes. However, this was easily sorted with brightness and contrast settings.

Looking at other websites selling this model, I believe that it is HDCP compatable.
