Perfect for XBOX 360 + PC use
review by: Anonymous rating:

os: Windows XP

I was looking for a monitor that could be driven from my son's XBOX 360, in High Definition wide-screen mode, and the "family" PC operating windows XP. This is it.

To set up your XBOX 360, plug the "component" red/green/blue + audio red/white (ignore yellow) phono plugs as supplied with the XBOX, straight into the back of the SM2032MW. Make sure that the plug at the XBOX end is switched to "HD". On the XBOX system set-up screen, set the video to the 1080 setting. Superb. Tip: the colours didn't look right on the SM2032MW at first - we found that this was because the device was initially set up for "cool" - use the remote control to get the right colour setting. If using the component audio feed from the XBOX into the SM2032MW as indicated above, then remember to set the XBOX 360 for stereo output (XBOX SYSTEM/AUDIO setup screen).

For set up of your PC, remember the SM2032MW is a really high quality, high definition screen; so to get the best out of it you need a PC graphics card that will operate at the max 1680 x 1050 definition that this monitor supports. You have to download the PC drivers for the monitor (easy enough - follow the instructions on the CD that comes with the SM2032MW), and you may need to update the graphic card drivers - go to the graphic card manufacturers web-site to find them. If your PC graphic card supports DVI connection then that's the one to use for quality in preference to the D-sub cable, though interestingly only a D-sub cable is supplied with the SM2032MW (a small oversight by Samsung, I'd suggest). To use the SM2032MW's speakers, connect the baby stereo jack-to-jack audio cable (comes with the SM2032MW) between the rear socket on the screen next to the D-Sub and the appropriate audio output from your PC.

Summary - this IS the monitor you need for using the XBOX 360 and alternating use with a PC. Even the size is right, since being seated close-up (for PC usage) a larger screen would be impractical.

One disadvantage: The SM2032MW is so good looking that it may put the rest of your decor to shame (only joking - NOT).

Excellent monitor great input choice

I bought this monitor from ebuyer and am very pleased that I did. The array of inputs is excellent, it has everything I need to connect a PC, Xbox 360, VCR, and camcorder at the same time.

VGA/DVI input from a 1680x1050 desktop looks brilliant, very sharp in its native resolution. The Xbox 360 at 720 via component input is terrific and the response time means there's absolutely no blurring.

It's odd that it comes with an analogue tuner because analogue transmissions are being shut down in the UK from 2008 to 2012. But that's not a major issue as you can buy a freeview adaptor from 25 quid. Sound is okay, but I wish the stereo separation was better as it sounds quite mono. Still, if you want good sound you should always use a hi-fi or separate speaker system.

Ideally I wanted a 22" version of this TV/monitor but 20" is as large as it goes. The black trim is very glossy and fitting the stand took a bit of controlled force. Overall it was a good buy and I'm very happy with it. No dead pixels either.

I have the monitor down from this i bought a couple of years ago and it is fantastic i use it as a TV as well as a PC monitor, mine only has a resolution of 1440x900 but gives a fantastic picture for both purposes. As usual a top branded product with top quality and very good aftermarket and warrenty. Now with added HDMI and a higher resolution im tempted to replace mine as this is a bargain price, i payed well more than double for mine and i thought it was a gd price back then!

1080p input on this
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

I'm about to buy one of these, did my research on Samsung's website and it says that 1 of the special features is that it can take a 1080p input. Ideal for my 360 Elite. link to the specs:http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/monitors/lcd/lcdtvmonitors/ls20pmasfedc.asp

Ordered on Sunday 3rd and got it today (6th). I read around on this TV and I'm going to clear up a few things.

The setting up of this TV/monitor was very easy, I heard that the fixing of the stand was abit tricky but I didn't have problems.

The picture quality is reall good and clear, I have currently tried my laptop (RGB), freeview (scart) and PS2 (scart) they all look great compared to my 32" Samsung HDTV. The sound is abit quiet and isn't the best quality but its only 2chx3w so I wasn't expecting much, surround sound in the headphones socket fixed that.

The apparence of the TV is sexy, smooth and beautiful. Has the power button on the front and menu, volume and program down the side. The remote control is the standard Samsung remote so its easy to use and simple to nagigate.

The TV has loads of ports on it: HDMI, Scart, DVI, RBG (RGB to RGB included), Conponent and Areial (built in TV tuner) on the back of the unit. S-Video, Video out and Headphone (phono to phono included) which are located on the left hand side of the unit however they are not visible from the front with or without wires in so it looks tidy.

Supporting up to a really high 1680x1050 res which also supports 1080p (ish), your PS3 will tell you are running 1080p however its just in between 1080i and 1080p so its abit better.

I'm really happy with this TV/monitor, I'm yet to test it on the 360 or PS3 but I believe this item would be perfect for anyone who wants to watch TV, play games or used as a PC monitor.

No this item doesn't have freeview and only has analogue TV tuner, but if you attach a digital freeview box then your TV will be ready for the digital switch over in 2011/2012. Over all, I highly recommend this TV Hope this helps :).

Stunning, stunning !! Got mine today after ordering it on Monday from Ebuyer of course.

Just set it up and as the tech specs says on the Samsung website this TV can run at 1080P in 16/9 format!! Got my 360 Elite running @ 1080P (through HDMI dont know yet if thats the same with component) and my PC @ 1680/1050 through DVI got the best of both worlds. For the price and to be able to run @ 1080P this television is the bargain of the web. JUST BUY ONE!! ITS THAT GOOD!!!

Had the monitor long enough to know that it is a great set. The HD side of it is very high quality stuff. Its dedication to HDTV means 16:9 video can be adjusted to work with it's 16:10 frame. The picture will either be fixed to the sides of the screen with letterbox borders, or fixed to the top/bottom with minor overscan at the sides, depending on the input method. Nevertheless, HD video detail is mapped flawlessly across its 1680x1050 pixel count, including 1080p input. Standard video doesn't look anywhere near as good, however. Sure SD video is poor in comparison in HD stuff, but you'll need upscaling equipment (DVD/Freeview) to view high quality SD. I use mine with the, dirt cheap, upscaling Goodmans GDB15HD box to give a better picture than what I have seen from built-in Freeview tuners on LCD TV sets - This monitor is clearly optimized for higher resolutions.

The speakers are hidden and the audio is actually normal, in fullness, compared to the tinny sounds we've become used to in smaller sized LCD TVs. You don't really notice stereo separation (L/R speakers should be further apart).

Picture settings memory such as brightness/contrast is input dependant. This means that what you set while viewing in component mode, for example, will be remembered specifically for the component input. The TV has a huge number of inputs ranging from composite phono to HDMI and PC audio-in. There is even a headphone-out socket. NTSC is viewable, in colour (I've only tried NTSC via scart).

Told you it's a great set, didn't I?

By the way, this TV looks hotter than your partner!
