Great card for the price

Iv just bought this card for my new rig, and its a great performer for the dosh i paid. It is silent, which was a must for my build.

However, i didn't want to compromise with the spec yet also keep the price down. This card exceeded my expectations.

It ran slow at first, crysis on medium settings with a high resolution. However the overclocking utility works a treat, sped things up ALOT. This did mean the card ran at about 80 degrees ++. So i had a fiddle inside, tied up some cables, moved bits about so my front case fan was blowing directly onto it, and it never gets about 65 now.

fantastic!

Excellent performance, doesn't have a fan hence very quit, however occupies the space of two slots due to a big heatsink.

Installed with out a single glitch.

Watch out it won't fit some PCs
review by: Graham Sivill os: Not Applicable

Bought one of these from Ebuyer to fit to my Dell Optiplex 745 only to discover that the card takes 2 slots with the exhust port occupying the rightmost port as you look at it from the back of your PC when inserted.

On the Optiplex there is no spare slot to the right of the PCiX slot just a part of the case so the card won't fit!!

I missed a previous reviewer's comment about it occupying 2 slots (probably would have still bought it as it fits the bill in every other respect (I.e. passively cooled and thus quiet which is why I wanted it), I just didn't remember that the Dell does not have a slot rightwards of the PCiX slot. Baahhh!

This will have to sit on my shelf until I build another PC or the Optiplex finally dies!

Very frustrating.

In Lay Terms

I've never felt obliged to write a review for anything before but I would like to add my two penneth for those of you looking to upgrade your graphics card but don't really have a great deal of knowledge re computers or upgrading.

Now first off I should make it clear that I am by far not a computer wizard, the most I've done in the past is to slot a couple of sticks of memory into my pc and that's about it. I read reviews re frame rates / overclocking / SLI etc - I wish I knew what all that meant but I don't, all I knew was that my games weren't running as well as they should be so I needed to upgrade my graphics card.

Before the upgrade my vista base scores were 3.6 for graphics and only 3.4 for gaming graphics.

I openend the box and thought blimey that's huge it'll never fit. I popped the old graphics card out and popped this new one in, took a deep breath and switched on the pc.

Vista found the new hardware straight away and set about updating the drivers. I didn't even have to insert the packaged software - the whole process took 5 minutes max and now the vista base scores have risen to 5.9 for Graphics and 5.5 for Gaming graphics.

This translates to a far better game play experience at a price I thought was absolutely superb.

Bottom line is, for those of you like me, who only know the basics, don't be put off, this card in particular was incredibly easy to install, has greatly improved my gaming and at a great price.

Another great card from asus, good performer ran all games I had at high res, but the only hitch is that it occupies two slots due to having a big heatsink, and VNC doesn't work, after installing it no video at all, had to reinstall drivers. Other then this nothing wrong.

What PSU do you need for this card?
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

I am seriously thinking about buying this card, one thing I am curious about is what PSU spec do you need to run this card?.

I have a 450w PSU supply in my PC would this be enough for this card?.

Hope somebody can advise me on this.

High GPU Temp
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

Hi

Haven't played yet on it but even in idle under Windows heath sink is so hot it will burn your fingers...

I recon it's at least 70C. So if you considering buying this card make sure you have got a good airflow in your case.
