Great mouse!

Everything customizable in software. Interchangable feet, weight system and dpi adjustment - what more could you want.

And the best thing not an MS logo in sight!

Well i was very stupid and read no reviews on this mouse before purchasing it... When i received it in the post the next day after ordering it on ebuyer. I had noticed that the mouse is weel packaged and looks the nutz!

So now i have installed the drivers of microsofts website, and its a beast. You can select 3 different dpi modes which you can change in the mouse settings. This is great if you want the accuracy, then switch to speed for when someone jumps up from behind you.

The puse also comes with an anchor which houses the extra weights and mouse pads. All i can say is WOW!

A good mouse, for the most part

This mouse is one of the biggest, most comfortable (I have very large hands so that is why I decided to get this one) I have ever had the honour of owning. It does take a while to get used to it because it is a very different shape to anything else out there, but as I said you do get used to it.
Now I'm going to explain why I've only given it 4 stars. The scroll weel could do with being a bit stiffer as at the moment it just feels a bit loose (if you know what I mean). I always thought this would be a fantastic idea but until I atually got a mouse with one. It doesn't really change the way the mouse feels or works.

Apart from what I said above this mouse is really worth getting it is very comfortable when you have gotten used to it.

I too read many reviews before going for this over the Logitech G9 alternative. People say you get used to its shape, but I have tried and failed to get used to the way you "have" to use this mouse to enable you to use the extra buttons despite having it for a number of months now.

I would advise anyone interested in this mouse to first look at how you use your current mouse. If the palm of your hand is not in direct contact with the top of your current favourite mouse, you probably wont like this mouse.

My usual style of using a mouse is to grip the mouse between my thumb and little finger and curl my fingers over on to the buttons (I have what could be classed large hands btw).

On this Microsoft mouse you "must" grip the mouse so it goes completely in to the palm of your hand if you are going to have any hope of being able to press the extra buttons with your thumb. Maybe its my large hands or the many years I have used mice with a different grip but I find it very awkward and uncomfortable (sweaty palms) when using this mouse "properly".

It is possible to use this mouse with my usual grip and it works just fine as long as you don't mind not being able to reach the thumb buttons (the reason you are probably buying it in the first place).

I find the scroll wheel much to stiff and has very little grip. You have to press too hard (for my liking) before you can generate enough friction between your finger and it to get it turning. A polished metal scroll wheel with hardly any grip on it... what were they thinking?

In hindsight I would not have bought this mouse. I may yet try the Logitech G9, but I was even more worried about the unusual shape of that one than the sidewinder. Perhaps the G5 would be a safer bet.

Try before you buy if you can and don't believe the "you get used to it" claims as you might not.

3/5 Looses marks for forcing you in to one type of grip which causes sweaty palms after lengthy gaming and the badly designed scroll wheel.

I found this mouse unusable. It is way too sensitive. Even when you fiddle with its settings, it's impossible to bring it to a state which makes it comfortable to use. If you are trying to click on something small like the corner of a window, it's almost impossible to get it because the cursor is constantly vibrating around.

The weights are just a gimmick and will soon get lost. The LCD screen seems pointless.

I quickly abandoned it and went back to Microsoft's Comfort Mouse 3000.
