This really is excellent value for money - I know it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. It looks fantastic, it's slimline design is perfect for most situations. I have burnt cd/dvds, watched movies, and of course used it for software cd/dvds Plug and play on a media center 2005 edition pc. With easy plug and play, it's great for pluging into my laptop if I want to watch a movie out of the lounge.

Got this for use with my 4G EeePC 701... The default Eee Xandros OS detects it just fine. Was able to play dvd movies on it after installing the libdvdcss2 library.

Someone asked if you could boot from this drive. You can indeed. I used it yesterday to boot from a Kubuntu Live CD to install Kubuntu onto the EeePC.

This drive works great under Kubuntu too.

excellent little box

I tried this on a new Carphone Warehouse WebBook (runs Ubuntu)it saw it with no problem. It's quiet and if there's a bootable disk in, it will boot off it (the host machine asks to press a key to boot off CD). It worked well to install XP into a virtualbox.

Delivery was about a week earlier than expected! I went for the 5 day delivery, and it arrived the day after the bank holiday I ordered it!

Excellent service.

I haven't tried writing to any disks yet, but I've not had any problems with LG drives before.

I bought this to use with my work laptop. It works very well with Windows Vista. Nero is great and can also be used with the cdrw that is already in my laptop.

The bonus for me is it is powered from the USB port. It comes with two USB cables; one data cable which also supplies power and another USB cable to act as power cable if the data cable does not provide enough power. I have only ever used the one cable (data)

I have had no trouble with CD's or DVD's; different makes etc.

All round excellent drive and although not the cheapest solution, it is well made.

Definitely recommended. Shame it doesn't come in a pouch or case for transportation.

Excellent works on Acer Aspire one

Worked straight out of the box on my acer aspire one with Linpus Linux. Allowed me to install xp and then Ubuntu to allow a dual boot. Not as fast as a writer on the main IDE/SATA bus but I guess that's a limitation of USB.

Well made and small enough to take away with you should the need arise.

Great on MacOSX Leopard 10.5.5

Worked just fine for me on MacOSX 10.5.5 on a 24" Core 2 Duo iMac. Worked first time, just plug and play via a USB port on the back of the iMac, using the standard "Burn Folder" mechanism from Finder. I did not need to use the extra USB/power lead that was supplied i.e. just works straight from a single USB port from the back of my iMac. Showed up as 8x write for DVD+R. (And in case you are concerned about such things, it looks just fine sitting next to the iMac on my desk - the colour is not quite the same shade of white as the iMac, but no problem at all.) For media, I am using Verbatim DVD+R 16x 25pk Spindle (quickfind: 88796) - no bad discs to date.
