Great value for the money...

Obviously at this price your not going to get an amazing little machine with 4GB of storage...

So the good...

I found the music and data transfer times very quick compared to ipod and other mp3 players. Plus amazing storage for the price with the option of more storage through the SD slot.

If your movies arent in the right format for this player, there is a converter that will change them to the correct format on the cd that comes with the player.

Fair amount of settings to allow you to save power.

comes with a mains charger.

Easy to use navigation.

Quick to respond even when loading large video files.

Paint application is great once youve calibrated the screen area!

Now... the bad!

SD slot has NO cover on it, so if you have no SD card in then there is just an open slot on one side of the unit... dust etc can get in it!

There is no carry case.

The games are poor, and DO NOT feature full touch screen. They basically work off the 5 navigation buttons on the side of the screen making it difficult to play them.

The head phones included are of a Very poor quality and too large for most peoples ears so you'll need to use your own (like all mp3 players these days it seems!!!)

Basically, it's a good little player with a few small niggles, but for the price you can't go wrong! IMO it beats all other mp3 players because of the capacity for price ration alone. Gave it 5 stars because for the price you cant really get better.

Hope some of you find this useful!

Great Little Player

I was originally looking at the Sumvision ICE 800 or 1000 mp3 players. The player had to be expandable and reasonably priced. When Ebuyer brought this down to 45 pounds (10 pounds less than the sumvision) I had to give it a go. I've now had it for four weeks and I love it.

The bad points first: The manual needs a magnifying glass to read after that it went back in the box! There is NO playlist. The radio is not good, probably due to using the earphones as an antenna. I don't find this a problem since it wasn't a major requirement.

The good points: It works great with my small portable Sony headphones (I hate earbuds). The external speaker is OK considering its size, but I would recommend using headphones.

The quality of the video is excellent once I worked out how to extract and convert video.

It also has a text reader, paint/note pad and voice recorder. I have'nt tried these yet, I can't think of a use for the text reader since I find it hard to read long documents on a PC let alone a 2.5" screen! The battery life is excellent, lasts all day if you switch the screen off when listening to mp3's.

The touch screen (once I got us to it) is easy to operate with a finger, even my husband could use it with his larger digits! There is a file explorer which can be used to delete items, but not much else.

It also comes with three games. The instruction manual is no help here. You need to use the keys down the right hand side of the screen (navigation buttons) to go left, right, up, down or fire/enter.

The video software won't read any of my disks so I have used AoA DVD Ripper available at www.aoamedia.com. I got the best quality pictures and sound sync by ripping the video as a wmv (version7) file at 640 x 480, bitrate 768, audio rate 128 and fps at 25 (PAL). The software that came with the player read this file OK and converted it to 320 x 240. Although the file is slightly larger that other file types i.e. Xvid of DivX it produced a much clearer picture with good sound sync.

I have bought a 2GB Mini SD card for this and it works a treat. It is fits neatly in the slot without sticking out.

To a PC it appears as two USB drives. Just drag and drop your files onto the player and away you go

All in all I am very impressed with this bit of kit for the price. It has everything I wanted - music, reasonable quality video and expandability, the rest is just a bonus!

will not play mp4 files, only plays AVI files converted with the bundled AVI converter software.

Wont play MP4 files converted with WINAVI MP4 converter, strange that it wont play MP4 files given that its an MP4 player!!!

Seems to only be an AVI player.

Have had some sound out of sync problems with the bundled avi software, so tried WinAvi, but wont play any other files not converted with bundled software.

Player is otherwise fantastic, quality of files is superb, but the file format problem is annoying.

good old ebuyer , ordered free delivery and came next day, as for the player , the packaging is VERY good and professional like with the magnetic opening box , no manual but dont need one, IT IS 100% TOUCHSCREEN BUT depends on the application being used , it is 100% because the paint application proves so, sound is good , video seems smooth enough , only took 2 minutes to transfer a 512mb avi movie, right earphone was knackered but i dont use the ones supplied anyway

For those of who are planning on getting this piece of gadget, well done an excellent choice indeed. Your hopes would not be dashed.

Those of you who have done and are wondering how to prevent this nice gizmo from damage,

Although it wasnt designed for this purpose, you can see for yourself why I recommend this.
Enjoy!

Bought this for my 11yr old Daughter, she loves it. It can go out of sync slightly on the video files but for the money it really is fantastic. It only takes mini-SD cards - I now have a spare 4Gb SDHC card! DOH!

Got loads of music & video on there and its not even half full. The games are a bit fiddly as they're not touch screen like a DS but hey ho. It's froze a few times but there's a reset 'hole' that sort's it out. I'll be getting another for my 8yrs old for Xmas. Nice one Ebuyer!

only had it for 2 hours.

the device looks very nice,

Works okay. slow to copy music to the device, works with WMP11 (no drivers needed). internal speaker is good quality, not to loud.

had a little trouble, when i first switched it on and tried play the tracks already on device. it would only play 10seconds then change track. a reset sorted that out.

plays mp3, wma, flac, ape, wav. MPEG-4. JPEG.

It can be used as a usb mass storage device(no drivers needed).

It can have a mini SD card. not SD

This is a good product

It will take Mini SD cards to add to memory

The product comes with a video convertion program that shrinks AVI it will also change mpeg, VCD, rmvb, asf, wmv and even the DVD file .VOB

it is easy to use and has a built in speaker although quiet it's nice to have

The radio is the only bit that's not very good in fact hardly usable due to noise it uses the earphones to boost the areal.

I cannot comment on battery life as I have not used it long before plugging it into the PC yet.

I liked it so much I am thinking of buying another for my child.

it is 80mm x 45mm x 10mm

So far this product by stage touch has been a really good experience to use. Its simple to navigate, quite responsive, comes with earphone, has very good quality when playing music out loud, looks nice, very light and generally in my opinion- good value for money.

Down side is that the product did not have a usb cable nor a case, the manual has very small writing and the explanation of the firmware update can be a bit hard to understand.

Overall its definitely worth buying :)
