LaCie Portable USB Hard Drive

Bought one of these on special offer.

It is small and neat, about the size of a thick passport, or small notebook like a diary. The case seems solidly made (aluminium?) The drive itself is powered from the USB port. A second cable is supplied in case one port does not provide sufficient power, but I did not need it. Disc activity is indicated by a blue LED.

The disc is preformatted as FAT32, and comes with documentation and utilities installed on it.

Under Linux, the disc can easily be repartitioned and reformatted using the gparted tool.

I can recommend this product for anybody that needs more capacity than a flash memory key can provide, but still in a very small package, and at low cost.

Highly recommended as a portable drive. Small and robust it offers brilliant performance for little money and is silent in operation. Being USB powered eliminates need for bulky cables or adaptors. Just one gripe - the LED is very bright and can illuminate a darkened room!
