Great!

Just got this and it's great. The picture quality is really good, the face tracking works great and its got a decent built in mic that can cancel out background noise (but haven't really tested that properly yet). It was really easy to set up and you can use all the webcam controls and features from within MSN messenger, Skype etc. The drivers work perfectly on 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista, but haven't tested with Vista. It comes with loads of fun add-ons that can super-impose characters and accessories onto your face in real time - very cool!

The camera is very compatible with 3rd party software so you can view the camera from the web, access the pan and tilt controls remoteley, set up motion detection to record etc etc. It's also one of three Logitech webcams specifically designed to use higher quality video with certain messaging applications like Skype.

I'd definately recommend this camera. Obviously it is on the pricey side but if you buy a cheaper webcam you'll always be wishing you got this one!

Great experience

My wife and i are often in two different countries. Before buying this webcam, we spoke by phone. Now with the large screen and clear picture offered by this webcam, we feel much closer together whenever we talk to each other. As well as the visual side, we find the audio better than using a skype handset.

Best Webcam I have ever owned!

Software installed without a glitch. An update was available and easily downloaded from Logitech's website. Picture quality is excellent, and very clear. Even in a dark room the colours will show up and the autofocus works perfectly to adjust to the surroundings. This is unlike many of my older cams which went into a green/beige "nightvision mode". I was told even on the other end of an msn converstion how clear the image was. The microphone is also excellent.

There is the older quickcam sphere MF on Ebuyer which sells for about 40 pounds. From what I can gather, my cam is the updated version which has the auto-focus and 2.0 megapixel resolution vs the 1.3 megapixel. The lens is also "designed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss"...how fancy, and more reason to bump up the price tag! I don't know if the resolution makes a difference for video calls, and the software is the same really. But I thought it was worth it to have the latest one.

The motorized face tracking works well and is quick, although on a couple of occasions has lost track of my face - I supose this depends also on lighting, sudden head spasms, etc... A fun feature is the video effects which gives you face accessories like masks, moustaches, horns, etc. You can downloads hundreds from Logitech. Very fun as they stay put on your face as you move (slowly) around the screen. These work on msn and skype - the sunglasses have been mistaken for being real by many! How sad, enjoy!

Super piece of kit

Upgraded from a 5yr old logitech quick cam and a free standing mic to this. The picture broadcasted via skype is very good quality (currently only 3 cams can send what they call 'high def' video on skype - this being one of them). audio is crisp too. Best feature is the rightlight technology. It really works well in adjusting the picture according to the light around, enabling it to work nicely in dimly lit conditions.

You can set it to auto track on one persons face, or a setting for tracking a group of people. It pixelates as the camera pans around in bursts of movement as the motor moves the camera into correct position. Its good enough for me to put my 3yr old in front of it whilst on to the grandparents and just about keeps up with her as she can't sit still.

The extra features to add images on top of your face are fun for a little while, and you can download extra themes from logitech.

Settings can be controlled from within Skype or other similar platforms.

Camera either sits on its base unit, or a pole approx 25cm sits inbetween camera and base unit to raise it up to eye level.

Would probably not sit on top of monitor without some adhesive, as the base unit is approx 7cm. There is another version of this camera with same lens that will clip on the screen, but will not autotrack on face with current software and is not motorised.

A superb webcam for podcasting
review by: Stephen Simmonds rating:
customer rating
operating system: Mac OSX

I use this for my websites blogs and my youtube podcasts, its fantastic for product reviews with its advanced focusing to zoom in on the packaging of the product, almost macro, and the built in microphone is as good as the stand alone solutions from almost any of the rivals.

Its best feature is the face tracking system which keeps your face in the centre of the recording at all times, meaning if you move around a lot in the shot or you are moving about the room, it really gives a professional feel to the videos it produces, its almost like your own personal camera man.

It has superb white balance and really picks out colours and light, as a result there is hardly any noise in the darks on the video. I would give this system a 10/10 in comparison to any other webcam solution and whats best is it will work with your Windows PC or your Mac.
