Good but some niggles

Bought this to drag myself out of the VCR era and be able to record from digital channels.

The first thing to note is that it's quite big, though the front is slim in terms of height, it's wide and it's deep (about twice the depth of my old VCR) so make sure it'll fit your stand.

Setting up is reasonably straight forward though the instructions seem to have lost a little in translation. You can record to the hard drive or straight to DVD and there's an option to burn recordings from disk to DVD.

There are a couple of minor niggles, the front panel clock is very faint and almost impossible to read in daylight. Also, although I wouldn't describe it as noisy, there is a distinct hum when it's working - you will notice it in a quiet room.

Those points aside as a digital recorder with both hard disk and DVD capability it's good value for money.

Not bad for the money

Ordered 6:15pm and arrived 7:10am the next day which was very quick, mine was delivered with missing composite cables but luckily had a spare scart cable so got it set up.

It is easy to set up, like a previous review said the manual gets lost in translation but there is nothing to worry about. The user interface is a bit basic, it is very similar to a VCR to set up the timer record, it is not the same style as more expensive freeview recorders or SKY+ where you flick through the programmes and select to record.

It is also quite noisy, I only notice when I switch the TV off, but I just stick it on standby.

But for the money it is good, the timeshift feature is excellent and easy to use. It has a 5:1 decoder if you want to add surround sound but does not have a HDMI socket for upscaling which maybe a problem for those with a HDTV.
