Excellent Processor

os: Windows XP

Installed this processor alongside an EVGA 8800GT SSC 512MB and 2GB Corsair CL4 RAM with a Corsair 620W PSU and it's fantastic. This computer plays Crysis on "High" graphic settings and Call of Duty 4 on highest settings, it takes seconds to switch on to the XP desktop.

You don't need a processor any better than this unless you're doing some kind of mainstream media encoding or something. This processor has made me wonder if there is even any point to getting a quad-core right now?!

If you're building a rig on a budget, especially if you want to be able to play games, you are so much better off getting a processor like this, and spending the cash you save on a better graphics card.

So yeah, a great CPU. Currently idling at 35'c (Core 0) and 37'c (Core 1). Recommended!

Overclocked E4600

Currently running the E4600 at 12 x 266.67MHz = 3.2 GHz, it is very stable and core temps are only 35 & 37

With my EVGA 7950GT Graphics Card & 2GB Memory, I get the following:

1) 3DMark2006 = 5973 (SM2.0 Score: 2374, HDR/SM3.0 Score: 2305, CPU Score: 2716)

2) SuperPI Mod 1.5 XS, 1M = 18.906s, 2M = 44.593s, 4M = 1m 39.250s

This is a good cheap CPU with a high multiplier (12x), so it doesn't take much to overclock pass 3.0 GHz, would recommend.

Overclocks easy to 3.2 alongside ATI 4850 o/c 700/1120 gets me a 3dmark of 12387. So I would recommend for a cheap cpu

Nice processor

My first ever dual core cpu, and my first Intel in quite a long time.

I had hoped that the stock cooler would be quieter than it is, as the PC containing this will occupy my lounge, but it isn't apallingly noisy - just not ideal.

The case into which I built the system is poorly ventilated, yet the cpu seldom reports a higher temperature than my system or hard drives. Good news for HTPC builders!

All of my other post-2002 cpus are AMD K7s. So I expected higher performance with this, and it delivers that. It runs just fine at 3GHz too.

I think that many PC reviewers generally over-hype new products in much the same way as the likes of Jeremy Clarkson ingratiate themselves with motor manufacturers when they swoon over the not-necessarily seminal advances offered in each new model. Objectively, if you want to build a true super-computer to rival the biggest and best in the world, you obviously will not get that from just one of these.

That said, it is quite nippy and does seem like decent value for money. I don't feel cheated in any way.

this chip is good dont get me wrong but i seem to be having difficulty getting good overclocking speeds from it. i can get 2.64 ghz that is very stable but anything over that and it crashes quite a bit. i have a gigabyte p35 mobo and 2 gig ram and ati 3870 gcard. all games run fine but extra frame rates are always welcome :-)
