Garmin 200w review

Not ApplicableHaving used the Garmin Nuvi 200w for a few days now I can say that it is a pleasure to use. I have been using a Sony Nv-U52 for about a month and I hated it, slow to find signal and the touch screen is unresponsive.
The Garmin however is a breeze to use, I let my wife test it without reading any instructions, she was amazed by the ease of the unit.
The unit is very solid, the screen is excellent and the instructions clear and give you plenty of warning. Highly recommended. It also comes loaded with the latest 2008 maps.
Excellent but a couple of negatives...

Windows XPI ordered this on Thursday night and it came Saturday morning as promised. Unfortunately there is no mains adaptor, but there is a cigarette lighter adaptor, and who wants to use a satnav in the house anyway? In the box is a DVD of European maps, in addition to the UK and Ireland maps on the SD card. And being widescreen, you can see more of the surrounding roads than you would on a 3.5'' screen. I was torn between this and the TomTom One (a tenner cheaper) and am glad I went for this, especially as the European maps (not mentioned in the description) are in the box as well. It is good at directions and very quick to plan a new route should you miss a turning. However, it will occasionally tell you to take a turning when the one you want is a bit further down the road. Which is fine in towns etc but could be awkward in cities where there are more likely to be one-way roads, stopping you from getting back on your route as quickly as possible. All in all an excellent unit. Buy this as for ten pounds over the One you get extra maps on disc, the SD card slot and it's widescreen.
just FAB

Windows XPGot my very 1st sat nav on fri and used it for the 1st time on Sun. I roughly knew where i was going which was 45miles away but it took me directly to the place i was going to in this small village. YES the only dowside is there was no mains charger or usb cable, but also there was no case included which you really need to keep the screen from scratch free. So bought a case and charger from ebay for a tenner so no worries. It also came with a disc and sd card for European mapping which wasnt mentioned when i was going to buy it so really made up for the other missing items above. If i can work it 1st time anyone can
Excellent GPS
Great unit, bright clear screen, charges in 4 hours, finds sats like a flash, recalculates routes in seconds, just so much more reliable than the NaviGo that packed up after 1 week!
Excellent satnav - but not out of the box

Not ApplicableThis device is simple to use, has an easily understood display with clear mapping, and gives good spoken instructions. It came with the bonus of European maps on both SD card and CD, and was delivered for free very quickly.
But... it was almost unusable out of the box. When I tried to enter an address, it asked for state/province and there was no way to input post codes. It appeared to be loaded with UK map data but USA software. After wrestling with the Garmin web site, I registered the nuvi, downloaded some software to my PC and updated the satnav's software. It now works fine with UK postcodes.
Ebuyer comment - this is a UK unit and does not come with European mapping as standard
Good kit at a great price

Windows XPHad one of these for a couple of months now, and I'm really happy with it. Worth getting the widescreen model as the on-screen keyboard is much easier to use. Quickly recalcuates routes if you miss a turn and easy to use. Only downside is that the battery only lasts a couple of hours with the brightness up, but longer if you can turn it down.
