Brillaint Bit of Kit!!
I have the 760 version which includes european maps, but other than this they are identical units. I have had Tom Tom and that was fine but I have to say that I prefer the user interface of this Garmin. It really is very simple. I also love the fact that it tells you the name of the road to turn down instead of simple right and left hand turn instructions - much better when you're not sure where you are going. The FM transmitter is great for both handsfree phoning and easy to hear instructions. I test drove a BMW and Audi recently with built in Sat Nav and they are not a patch on this thing. The graphics are great (better than Tom Tom) and the traffic is excellent. I was directed round a horrible delay on the M1 recently and I found it spot on. All in all this unit is fantastic. All you need to decide is whether you want European maps or UK. If it's the latter this is your baby, if not the 760 which I have is great. Happy navigation!!
Small correction - 710 doesn't speak street names
I've been looking into sat nav systems a lot recently and have also just bought a Nuvi 760. The Nuvi 700 series (710/760/770) are virtually identical to each other, the only differences being:
710 = UK + Ireland maps; DOESN'T speak street names out loud.
760 = UK + Ireland + European maps; DOES speak street names out loud.
770 = UK + Ireland + European + North American maps; DOES speak street names out loud.
Nearly bought the 710 thinking it spoke street names, but it doesn't. Only a minor difference but for 20 quid extra or so, you might find the spoken street names helpful - especially when the route is complicated like Hangar Lane roundabout with several lanes and several exits, or anywhere in central London for that matter(!). Also, buying the European maps afterwards to upgrade the 710 is far more than the 20 quid or so difference in price, so if you're considering buying one of these higher-end Nuvi's and there's the slightest chance that you'll use it in Europe you're probably better off buying the 760. On the whole, the Nuvi 700 series are superb.
A couple of questions
Can you confirm if the European maps can be added on afterwards or would I need to buy the 760 from the outset
Also, does the FM transmitter mean that the radio has to be tuned to the right frequency all the time i.e. I can't listen to the radio and have it interupted by a
