Great Value for Money- Easy to use great storage.

Windows XPThis is my first PVR so i did my research first.
The noise from the machine when in use is only slight and is not intrusive at all only making a slight whirring sound.
It has all the functions of the humax apart from not being able to record 2 programs at the same time or overlap, but you may still watch one channel whilst recording the other.
You can play the programme you are recording from any point whilst still recording it.
Pausing live tv is no problem with picture in picture also available.
Overall the PVR is amazing, it records over 70hrs of programmes of which i've only used half the memory so-far (this was over Xmas time when the most programmes were on).
Overall use and set up was very easy and within 2 days my 7yr old daughter was using it like a proffesional.
Had to buy an ariel booster from Argos to improve picture quality and cut down the picture skipping ocassionaly.
Great wee gadget

Not ApplicableThe recorder works well and is easy to use - you can mark programmes to record with a single button-press from the TV guide.
The "pause live TV" feature is also very easy to use, and you can fast-forward at 2x, 4x, 8x right up to 32x speed.
I haven't used the teletext much, but found it a little slow.
The remote has a button for every conceivable feature, even volume control.
Overall a good buy and certainly excellent value for money.
Bought the PVR 80 last year.....

Not Applicableand I have to say I was that impressed I bought a second for my mother in law. She was always faffing around with VHS tapes so I decided to get her one.
She was well chuffed with it, I scored a few brownie points there I think.
A note on the unofficial firmware upgrade, I've done it and it works fine but the EPG does take longer to load. If you delete all the channels you'll never watch it loads slightly quicker (apparently) but its a small price to pay to be honest anyways.
My advice is simple - BUY IT!
Great vale for money

Windows XPWe were trying to find an alternative to sky plus (i.e recording and pausing live tv) without the monthly subscription. This is a great alternative.
Remote slightly scratched but works perfectly well.
On initial setup the screen jumped everytime we recorded or paused, but we took all the leads out and put them back in and it now works perfectly fine.
Very happy with this product, would recommend.
Take control of the TV schedules!

Not ApplicableBeing a very busy person, I was fed up with forgetting to watch TV shows because I couldn't be bothered to find a blank tape or DVD-R but this machine lets you take control of the TV schedules and watch things when you want to.
Forget the fuss and opportunity for errors of entering start and end dates and times for timer recordings, you can just bring up the on-screen programme guide which lists all the programmes for 7 days, find the one you want to record and hit the record button...when the programme is broadcast, the machine will record it for you to watch at your convenience. You can even see a brief description of each TV show.
If you wanted to be really organised, you could buy a TV guide, find the shows you want to watch and then set the machine up for a week's recording and leave it to do its thing. Never have to wade through piles of tapes or discs to find out which one has that programme you want to watch again!
The machine looks a bit like a 1970s clock radio but it's got a nice easy to read LCD display with clock. It also shows the channel name and number. It doesn't make a lot of noise either, even when it's recording or in payback mode.
You can record and watch TV at the same time and also watch two channels at once (one in a little window in the corner of the screen.
My only grumble would be that it puts black bars at the top and bottom of the screen but then again so did my old standalone Freeview box and my DVD machine does the same. Probably not a problem if you have a widescreen TV.
Good but...

Not ApplicableFirst off, this is 'Grade A' which implies refurbished, but aside from a slightly tatty manual mine looked as new.
The retro 70's styling might not be to everyones taste but I think it looks OK and the display is nicely understated.
This is twin tuner but it is not dual record. In other words you can record one channel whilst watching a different one, but you cannot record two different channels at once. Having said that there is apparently an unofficial firmware update that enables this (the PVR has a serial port for off-air updates).
It has two SCART outs, though only one is RGB enabled. It also has optical out for audio. The UI & EPG is basic but functional and quite responsive, allowing the expected recording from EPG, pausing live TV & PIP etc.
It stores around 75 hours of TV, but there is no option to edit recordings (so you cannot take the breaks out). The HD noise is audible (I've yet to hear a genuinely silent PVR) but unobtrusive and you are unlikely to hear it over the sound of the TV anyhow.
Only downside is that there are occasional 'drop outs'; a few frames skip now and again which can be annoying. There are several reports of this on various forums regarding this recorder.
Overall I am very pleased with it though.
Digihome PVR160=Vestel T810
This is a good price for this model. Normally sold new in Argos, they have a good user interface. This device is a Vestel T810 clone and being a T810 is designed as single record only - unless you install the twin record firmware which is an unofficial upgrade. Unfortunately with twin record, due to limited memory the 7 day program guide is limited to maybe only a day or two. Any unused channels can be deleted however, and this frees up memory for more days in the program guide. Look at www.digitalspy.co.uk for more information. One physical upgrade worth doing is to replace the internal hard drive data cable with an 80 conductor IDE cable. It will prevent the skipping that may occur in twin record mode. Alternatively look for Vestel T816 models for official twin record mode. ONN badged models in Asda for instance.
Excellent piece of kit
The TV does not need to be on to record freeview or any other channels. I bought a 80GB and upgraded it to twin record and 160GB.
Best bit of kit I have bought in a while.
Buy it
os:
Not ApplicableVery easy to use and good quality. The snags are 1. only one programme can be recorded and this means if there is a slight overlap, you may end up choosing one programme to record. HDD can be filled up very soon as it is too easy to record and schedule a recording and there is no easy way to archive the material. however it is a wonderful piece of kit.
Good for the price

Not ApplicableGot this out of the box and hooked it up and it set itself up in a few minutes. As a Freeview tuner it was an improvement on the (admittedly cheapo) stand alone unit that I'd used before. A test recording showed the playback quality was fine as well.
One snag - had to do all this from the front panel as the remote was doing nothing. However, I came back to have another play later on and found the problem - the batteries were a sloppy fit and were just falling out of position when the remote was moved. A bit of padding under the cover sorted this out and now it's all good.
