Re Fan Noise????
If you press setup then scroll down to preferences you will see an option on the right for power save which as default is switched off. Turn it to on then when in standby the machine shuts down turning the display off and also the fan that keeps coming on. Hope this helps.
Well Impressed
os:
Not ApplicableDoes what is says on the box.
Instructions on how to make region free
open disc tray
press 0,1,2,3,0
insert any region disk and away you go.
please note that the DVD player gives you
no visual confirmation, in fact each press of the remote is met with the 'no entry'
icon in the bottom-right of the screen. Just stick a different region DVD in to
find if it worked.
..and another thing...
great help on the Power Save function, that stopped the fan noise, but it was REALLY noisy so, I checked where the unit's heat was coming from...most of it was from the PSU and not the NDD, so I just opened it up and disconnected the power connectior from the main board...job done and no hassles so far...if the drive ever fails I'll just stick another one in (don't know if it needs special formatting tho')
Still, a great unit for a tonne...
2 at once?
Can you record a programme and watch another channel at the same time?
good and bad points
os:
Not ApplicableBought this because I wanted a PVR that allowed me to make permanent copies of some programmes on DVD. Most units that have this facility are around the 200 mark. This does pretty much what you expect with time-shift, timer recording etc. A few bad points - the fan noise is occasionally intrusive (I sometimes stick a cushion in front of the unit!). It's only single tuner, so you will need another digibox or a digital TV if you want to watch one programme while saving another - and it interrupts what you're watching to tell you the timer is about to start. There seems to be no way of saving what is already on the HD while in time-shift mode, and the HD is only 80GB, so worth stocking up on DVD+RWs. Lastly, I found out that if the channel you are watching closes down, you can't carry on watching it in time-shift mode - again there is no way to access what's already on the HD. However, for 97 quid the few little faults are worth putting up with - only the noise loses it a star and you get used to that after a while.
Great little player

Not ApplicableGreat quality but fussy about which type of DVD-r is uses. Plays most original DVD titles although a little slow to respond to key presses. Gets a bit hot after being on for 20mins but I just use a desk fan to keep it cool. The front display is great but a little dim and sometimes goes off for a few minutes. The menu looks good if you like bright red and green . All in all a fantastic unit.
Just a question...
Is this a single tuner?
Can i record whilst watching something from the hard drive?
Can i swap out the hard drive for something larger?
VCR query
Would I be able to copy from my VCR and my digital camcorder to DVD on this recorder?
Fan noise???
I love this unit - it does exactly what I want it to, BUT even on stanby the fan spins up at regular - but random intervals? As this is for the bedroom, this isn't ideal, does anyones elses do this. I've gone back to ebuyer for a refund, but wondered should I get a replacement if the new one isn't as noisy?
