Niffty!
operating system:
Windows XPSmall, compact and handy. Nifty little gadget that works well with SATA (not tried IDE connections).
Makes sense to have one of these to hand when tinkering around, saves opening up cases all the time. Comes with power adapter and converter for Molex (4pin) to SATA power.
I brought one earlier - but that was just 3.5 & 2.5 IDE drives, this one is more versatile!
Decent buy (especially if you need to make up a minimum order value!)
Top Tip for using this Adapter
This adapter works really well but I had a faff with it to begin with. The trick is to plug the IDE connector into the drive, without the USB-end connected to anything, power-up the IDE drive using the mains-powered supply and wait at least 15 seconds before connecting the USB plug to a PC/laptop. If one connects the USB too quickly, the PC/laptop will not recognise the IDE drive; it will not assign a drive-letter to it and "access is denied". This is what happened to me and I only managed to sort it out when I found a discussion thread on another web-site that gave the same advice as I've given above.
Sata Ide Adapter thingy Mi Bob
operating system:
Windows XPGreat product had a couple of old hard disks lying around which i wanted to get some data off. This device is perfect for this saves a lot of time and effort reinstalling them into a system.
Works with IDE & Sata flawlessly
Does exactly as it says on the tin
operating system:
Windows XPTried this with IDE disk, SATA disk and SATA laptop drive. Works perfectly. Cant fault it. Tried it with Windows XP Pro and Vista.
Works just fine
operating system:
LinuxWorks fine with XP and Linux, with no drivers - shows up as a Mass Storage device. Worked for me (with an IDE drive) whether I plugged power in first or USB first. Everything you need to get data off nearly any disk.
Very good
operating system:
Windows XPThis works as advertised. An old IDE HD was detected immediately when it was all plugged in. Comes with an AC adapter to power the HD.
Suitably impressed so far...
operating system:
Windows XPTested this device with a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB PATA133 drive. Initally XP's Disk Manager wanted to initialise my HDD but I was having none of that! So, to get Windows to see the drive immediately I changed the jumper setting from slave to master, plugged in the adapter & power, waited until the drive had spun up then plugged the USB cable into the PC.
Voila!
USB - IDE/SATA
operating system:
Windows VistaGreat product - been looking around for a cable that deals with both IDE and SATA interfaces and this does exactly what it says on the tin. Incidentally, I ordered on the cheapest delivery and it arrived a day and a half later, along with a Crucial 2GB SD Card (105712). Top stuff.
Brilliant
operating system:
Windows XPA brilliant piece of kit that allows access to any hard drive or use of an old internal DVD drive as an external USB device. Essential for anyone whole fiddles with computers.
Excellent
operating system:
Windows XPI have been using the guts of both SATA and IDE external HDD enclosures before I bought this.
This is way better and allows you to use 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs in both SATA and IDE formats.
Excellent idea
