great way of watching HD
os:
Windows Vistathis is a full kit and comes with the most important thing you need- playback software. The Cyberlink suite makes it simple to watch bluray disks. I haven't tried HD DVD movies yet but cannot envisage any problems. As a DVDRW it works fine and I plan to start using BD disks as well now they are only 8 pounds. thanks ebuyer!
spec
os:
Windows VistaIt will write to BD-R and BD-RE single layer 25GB disks. The dual layer 50GB (and also 100GB, 200GB disks) will be out later in the year. I am not sure but there may be firmware so you can use the dual layer disks or you may need to buy a new drive. I do know that this is 60 pounds cheaper than the Pioneer and that the LG reads HD DVD disks so it is the best high end optical writer/ player on the market by a long way. Mine is great!

BD & HD Film Playback
As long as you use a DVI - HDMI cable, HDCP playback from the computer is possible. HDCP compliant Player must also be installed, I use Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra. It's great when using dual screen output, the TV registers a 1080P signal.
Nice Drive. Software causes BSOD...
os:
Windows XPI have had this drive for a day and I installed the CyberLink Software that came with the Drive. I was running Easy Media Creator 7.5 before and I removed it as per the their forum website to make sure there was no trace of it on my PC.
I then burnt a Audio CD, Data CD (on a CD-RW), Data DVD (on a DVD-R) which the CyberLink software. The software is functional, but nothing stands out.
Problems started with InstantBurn. This is Packet Writing. I popped a new DVD+RW disc in the drive and InstantBurn formatted, no problems. I then attempted to copy some files to it and Windows XP Pro SP3 Blue Screened. I reset the PC and it Blue Screened after logging in. Windows would not start up at all until I removed the disc. I tried another DVD+RW by a different manufacturer and got the same result.
I then removed all the CyberLink Software (except PowerDVD) and installed the Trial version of Nero 8. Formatted the same two DVD+RW discs with InCD and it works fine.
Excellent drive, just don't install InstantBurn!

BD-RE write support ?
Does this support writing to BD-RE single layer (25Gb) and dual layer (50Gb) discs ?
BD-RE
In reply, the description says it reads
BD-RE (SL/DL) 2x and no mention of writing and BD-RE, so I doubt it will.
Film playback on a HD TV
Ive been fishing around for info on playing blu-ray or HD films in this drive on to my HDTV which is 1080p, however some info ive read suggests that the screen and graphics card must be HDCP compliant - has anyone had any issues with playback of commercial films on there PC and does anyone use there PC on a TV?
Ive got a 7900GT graphics card and sometimes hook it up to my 40" Samsung 1080p HDTV
Info welcomed
