Got this, this morning. Took ages to install, loads of wires very fiddly.

Got all up and running shoved my MicroSD card in to test the copy feature. Didn't work. But I have managed to get it to work after all! Even on Vista x64

Go to My Computer, and Open the CD Drive, so that you can view the contents. Right Click on the setup.exe and Properties. Click the Compatabilty tab and then change the mode to run in Windows XP (Mine said (Windows XP (Service Pack 2))) and then run the program!

It will error saying that something wasnt quite right, and that you need to unplug it. Just restart the computer and the C-Media Card Manager will pop up, then press the copy key on the front of the reader and it copys it to a folder on the desktop under a file called whatever the card it is that you put in, ie SD, MS blah blah.

Thats how i got mine working, so good luck getting yours to work :)

Got and fitted this today, a lot of wires but i dont mind that, it works and works well, easy to use and clever, out of all of the gadgets i bought to put into my system, iv got to say this is the best! And got it for 12.99 instead of 19.99 since ebuyer lowered the price for a short period of time.

I've just installed this and here are my initial thoughts:

The manual is small, but has all the information someone with a little experience of the inside of computers will need.

It comes with all the cables you need: sata, usb, 4 x fan cables (3 x 3 pin, 1 x molex), 3 x thermal probes.

Vista 64 picked everything up without needing the CD that came with it.

The display is good. Press the mode button to switch between fans/probes. There's + and - buttons to adjust the fan speed manually, or you can se it to do this automatically depending on the temperature of the probe attached to the same location. for example, probe 1 controls the fan speed of fan 1 if set to auto. I haven't plugged the probes in and am controlling all fans manually.

When accessing a memory card the light at the front (when closed) or at the top (when open) flashes purple. When a memory card is in the light goes red. If there's no memory card it's blue.

The card reader will take almost all cards and doesn't need adapters. It takes both memory stick and memory stick duo in the same slot without an adapter, something I've not seen before. It's got a little slot for micro SD / transflash, a lot for compact flash/microdrive and an unnamed slot at the bottom - I assume this is XD. Some cards need to be inserted upside down - the list is in the manual.

As said in previous reviews, if you set the compatibility to Windows XP SP2 on the installation file for the copy software it installs and works fine in Vista.

It's always handy to have another USB slot which is hi speed and works perfectly.

Having no e-sata devices I can't test that, but it's just a sata cable from there to the motherboard so I can't imagine it not working.

To sum up, this is probably the best 13 quid I've spent on my computer.

HIGHLY recommended

This product rocks, i had the problems listed in the previous review but unhooked the fan cable from cpu fan header and it runs fine no alarms. It also reads pro duo memory without any adapters and also the new sdhc memory with no problems.

only problem i have is that the copy drivers are not vista compatible

This is great if you don't mind a lot of wiring. Setting this up means 3 Heat Sensors, 3 Fan controllers, Sata Cable, Cable to USB header in Mobo and also a 2pin "HDD access" cable? which I have not used. Fan controller working well in Auto mode and have tested Memory Stick Duo and CF card. Auto copy button not working as no Vista software but can access cards via Windows Explorer so no big deal.

Great product,

has a cool alarm feature that makes the screen flash red...and it beeps:)

Dont be fooled by the 'eject botton' in the top of the screen......it is not an ekect botton...it is a copy button...to take the screen out you have to push it in and pull it up

makes my thermaltake armour look really cool!!!

but there are alot of wires.

A clever little device, and only for 12.99! It is ideal for monitoring temperatures and adjusting fan speeds.

It is a little fiddly to get going, and the build quality is not so good (I broke one of the connections to something but was insignificant).

When you open the box, it all looks good and you get that distinctive "made in china" smell of plastic. Despite this, for the money you are getting quite a lot, and once installed it doesn't look so bad, the LCD looks nice, but takes a while to understand how to work it (instructions are not the best).

The software that comes with it is quite helpful for copying files from memory devices. I will rate 4 stars because of the amount you are getting for the price, but if you own an expensive case, I recommend a better quality product.

Wires..wires
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

If you buy this be prepared to have to do alot of wire management because there are 10 wires that will have to be used to make this work with all the specs listed! Thats 3 for the temps, 3 for the fans, 1 for the DC Power, 1 USB for the Card Readers and USB Port, 1 for HD signal and 1 last one for the E-SATA. So make sure you get some cable ties and wire sheaths before you buy!

Quite Straight Forward

Dont be worried about the 10 leads that have been mentioned in other posts, they are not really an issue.

Instructions are quite straight forward and I found it easy to install the hardware.

Problem I found, is that it did not line up with my tool-less, screwdriver-less case! The screw holes did not line up with the clip in slide bars on my case. I compromised and put the unit piggy-back ontop of a DVD with double sided carpet tape. Not sure if I could have lined holes up if I had holes anyway as I had to bring the unit forward about 4mm out front of case to make sure the screen could be opened properly. This is probably only due to my modded case which is moulded at the front. You really need a flush part of the case above it, or CD/DVD etc so the screen stands up at 90 degrees.

On the subject of the screen, its not powered or automatic! You have to push in to open and pull it out and up manually, closing it is opposite action.

As for the leads,

- Power lead is a pass through connector so you can put it between another bit of hardware if you dont have enough power connectors from your PSU.

- 3x Fan leads, again are pass through so fit between your fans and motherboard.

- 3x Temp sensors, doesnt really say where best to fit them, just says attach to corresponding heat location.

- HDD access indicator. Dont really know why this is a single lead, most cases have HDD read & write indication already and using this will take it away from the case LED's.

- E-SATA, Im not using this as no spare SATA port on Mobo.

- USB socket & Card Reader, Needs 9 header pins on your Mobo or added card for card reader to work with USB. I only have 4 header pins so cannot get full functionality of the card reader as yet. I believe it will copy card directly to PC at touch of the 'copy' button.

Fan & Temp monitor, you can set alarm to sound if any one of the 3 fans slows down to anything between 500-2000 rpm in increments of 100. Temp is between 40-80 Celcius or 104-176 Fahrenheit. You can choose to display in C or F.

When powered, screen has a soft blue backlight and the copy button is also blue which can be seen when the screen is closed. When a card is inserted, the copy button flashes between red/blue and settles to red all the time the card is in the slot.

Alarm, if alarm sounds, you gat a few beeps and the screen and copy button flash red, after a few beeps, the screen settles on solid red with the word CAUTION at bottom corner.

Hope this review helps!
