Top class laptop, great value!
os:
Windows VistaI bought this laptop, exact same specification, in January. It's got no unnecessary bells and whistles (no media buttons, webcam, etc), but the core is as good as you can get for the money. T7300, 250Gb, 2Gb RAM, for 500 quid (it was cheaper then than it is now). I haven't found that specification cheaper *anywhere else* since.
It runs like a dream, and that's especially impressive considering that it comes with Vista - an OS that appears to be hugely inefficient and clunky. I'll get linux on it soon.
Would recommend to absolutely anyone (even at 560 pounds, as it is priced now). The only negative point is that the DVD tray is a little flimsy, but if you take care when using it I don't consider it a problem. Oh, the speakers aren't great either. I would love a higher resolution screen, but that's just getting greedy, this one works fine :o)
Good value performance
os:
Windows VistaI purchased one of these units to replace an old desktop, with the added bonus of mobility . The rise of xbox, means I no longer need a pc to run the latest games, but I am very much old school in the respect I like a dedicated graphics card, lost of ram and a decent processor, and this is my first intel, and pre built system I have brought since the pentium 1. and i am not disappointed.
I upgraded my system to the maximum 4gb ram (2x2gb) mainly because vista is a resource whore.
One the whole I am pleased with the product and its performance though there is a problem with the computer and that is vista........ the ATI drivers for the hd 2400 are unexceptionably incompatible with vista, the computer is occasionally prone to falling over and freezing down to graphics card... well thats what vista claims and upon further research it seems to be true that ati and vista are not friends at all. personally I think that system would run better with xp installed. but I am sure that that could be said for most computers running vista. the only other issue I have is the sound through aux out is very quiet.
Previous reviewer is wrong
The previous reviewer has been a little ignorant when writing his review. This is the V5545, NOT the V5505 he is referring to and thus this unit is actually better because it has dedicated graphics, webcam etc. (to mention a few)
Therefore, at this price, it is a better deal than around January (which should be obvious).
I'd also say that the paint-work on these units (especially touchpad and keys) is less than optimal and wears away easily. Unfortunately, not much can be done for this. (And my hands aren't even that sweaty!)
How is this laptop
Can anyone answer if this can perhaps load COD4 at minimal setting?
And can the person writing the previous review, about "HD 2400 not very compatible with Vista", explain a bit more? I'm interested in this laptop but don't want it to crash every 30mins :o)
Thanks.
