Superb - a quality upgrade

Bought this to upgrade from a 7900 GTO 512mb.

The rest of the system is:

Antec case and Hiper 580 watt PSU

Asus P5B motherboard

2 x 1 gig Corsair XMS2 on 4-4-4-12 timings

Samsung 320gb hard drive (16mb cache)

DVD writer and onboard sound

This new card is superb - the same dual slot cooler as the old 7900 so no installation problems. Installed the latest driver from Nvidia website and fired up 3D Mark 03 and 06 (both free editions downloaded from the Futuremark site.

3D Mark 03 score (1280 x 1024) rose from 18,407 to 30,615

3D Mark 06 score (1280 x 1024) went from 5964 to 10638

Very quiet card, it never became audible even during the benchmark looped test. It does get loud for a few seconds at start up but is perfectly quiet in a normal room.

Comes in a HUGE box with just driver CD and a second CD with utilities on it for gaming and overclocking. Also has a power converter thingy if your PSU does not have a PCI Express line.

No game included, but at this price I don't really care about that.

I'm delighted with my purchase, a great product at a great price. I went for the Super Saver (free) delivery option and it arrived within 3 days which was two days before it was due

Superb card

Having upgraded my monitor to a shiny new 22" 16:10 wide screen model from a 19" 4:3 one my almost new 8600GTS wasn't quite up to task of running games, especially STALKER, at a screen res of 1680 x 1050.

This card is big at 9" long and takes up two slots. Temperature wise it idles at around the mid 50s and when gaming can reach 80 degrees but frame rate is high and very smooth.

Overall I am very impressed, it handles my current favorite games Half-Life The Orange Box and STALKER at 1680 x 1050 with the settings up high.

Brilliant Card

I bought this card, along with a whole new rig, a few months back just before Christmas 07' to aid with my 3D Modelling work - my 6800GT wasn't quite up to the job.

I haven't looked back bar to laugh. This card eats most things alive. The quad core I bought (Q6600 GO) walked all over the rendering work ad this card helped a lot with the 3d view of my work, but it really steps out when it comes to gaming.

STALKER on high WITH dynamic lighting on high and I barely had any problems - even with dynamic lighting being as un-optimised as it is. There was one underground area where there were severe frame rate issues, the dynamic lighting just being too much, however, after a patch of the game, this problem seemed to go away with nothing but flawless gaming all the way to the end.

I've run all the Steam games I own - orange box and the earlier games - at max settings with some nice 1400 x 900 resolutions without a problem, and barely any frame rate drop that I've noticed.

I've run Crysis on high, however there are noticeable frame issues on max with this card, so I stuck with high. Had barely any frame issues on this excluding VERY high action filled scenes where you would probably expect problems with any card of the moment, even the new 9 series.

Amazing card, especially for the money, and I heartily recommend it to anyone :)

MUCH FASTER THAN 8800GTS 320MB!!!
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

HAD 8800GTS 320MB ON C2D CHIP, GOT THIS ON Q6600 CHIP AND AN EXTRA 4500 MARKS ON 3DMARK06. THATS A BIG JUMP, AND THOUGH THE Q6600 HELPS A BIT THIS TOTALLY SILENT CARD IS A BIGGER/BETTER UPGRADE THAN I IMAGINED, IF YOUR RUNNING A 7 SERIES GPU THIS WILL BLOW IT AWAY!!!
