I was getting errors trying to burn DVDs with my 6-month old Lite-on, so I bought this and some Verbatim dvd-r disks. Result! This drive is fast, reasonably quiet and does the job. Burned a 2 gig image in 3 minutes flat. Would happily buy more.

Brilliant writer
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

A fantastic, very quick writer. Writes dual layers at 8 speed no problem. 16 speed DVDs are quick and very stable. Had no coasters yet.

The fact that its SATA makes a difference for data transfer rates

Region coding

Excellent build quality easy to flash the firmware to make drive region free so your disk can play/copy region 1 films from the USA.

Region 1 films are not censored like the UK versions even Top Gun was censored

Dont forget this drive is SATA so dont forget to order drive cables and power cables for older computers and sata drives do not share ribbon cables unlike master-slave of old ide drives

Anything that can read my old discs with about a million and a half scratches on them, deserves a lot of respect. This thing is the best and fastest "go for the buck" well worth buying. If your only THINKING about getting one of these, my advice is GET ONE NOW!!!

This drive has enabled me to use and COPY discs i thought were completely useless, allowing me to use them on other machines. Well worth it. 5 Stars from me!

great drive, no problems with installation, it's a little noisy when in use but no more than my old Samsung.

Reccommended

There are alot of SATA drives to choose from. Recently built two gaming pcs. One using this drive and the other using the Lite-On Drive. (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127442).

The lite-on comes in a nice box...

This Optiarc (NEC ... aka Sony) comes in a brown bag. It is quieter, faster access to disc, and more importantly cheaper.

As it's OEM, the usual rules apply - grab yourself a SATA power cable (if the psu don't have one) and an SATA Data cable. You'll also have to purchase a copy of Nero or Roxio if you don't already own one of these.

Highly reccomended as its quieter than my old Sony IDE DVD-RW. This is also 17cm long, and fits nicely behind a psu in a MATX case.

Hadn't heard the name but purchased on the strength of the user reviews here on ebuyer. I've not been disappointed, it works well reading and writing CDs, DVD+R and DVD-R. Hasn't failed me yet. Fast too and great value.

Good product with a nice price!
review by: Xiao Bin Liu os: Windows XP

I bought this DVD writer for my new PC. Yesterday I burned my first double layer DVD+R at 8x speed. It work fine with my Nero 8. Quite and reasonable quick.

I also like its black colour. It fits my black tower well.

Recommended to everyone.

This is a sony/nec drive!

Optiarc is a joint venture between Sony and NEC to build optical drives, so they are top notch and fairly priced too.
