Not great in SLI

I got a couple of these to run in SLI as they were fairly cheap at 75 quid each. They certainly pack a punch for the price. However they lack the badwidth and memory capacity to effectively work in high resolutions. SLI usually works at it's best in high resolution but with these cards they will not really give very playable framrates above 1600x1200.

I have managed to get crysis running in all high setting at 1600x1200 with fairly playable framerate (mostly in the low 30's). In DX10, I can play crysis with all very high setting except medium textures, 1024x768, with very playable frame rates (mostly low 40's). Other games such as UT3, Gears of War, Oblivion, Company of Heroes, TF2 can be maxed out at high resolutions and keep very good framerates. Company of Heroes especially which gave an average of over 150fps running the built in benchmark at max setting DX9 (only high textures), no AA. The 9800GX2 scores 160fps running the same benchmark only with v. high textures.

Overclocking this card was very easy. I was able to get 720MHz on the core (1800MHz shader) and 1050MHz on the memory (2100MHz effective) which gives a nice performance boost. Temps very rarely go above 70c and will usually stay in the low 60's when gaming.

I recommend this card for a budget build as an alternative to a 3850 256mb as long as you are not too bothered about the noise but you get used to it after a few days (not noticable when playing games). However SLI performance is very underwhelming in most titles and you would be far better off going for a 4850 for about the same price of 2 of these.

This card is never going to be the fastest thing on the planet but for the money it will play crysis at 1680x1050 with all the graphic options to at least medium. For under 100 pounds can you ask much more?

For windows vista it copes with aero like my old 7600gt would with windows 98

Only one thing stops me giving this 5 starts. It's a single slot card and the cooler is working overtime so it sounds like a leaf blower. Personally I'll be installing a silent after market cooler when I have the time

Bought this card on the thursday it came on the friday cant complain about delivery.

I had a 300watt psu and it runs ok but not the best. just recently upgraded to a artic 700watt psu and i must say it runs very well now and can handle most games with 140fps+

so if your on a budget get this card you wont be dissapointed!

I dont have one, but a friend does and we did some testing.

This is a good card, as long as you dont play overly demanding games. We thought it would have been best if he had spent a little more and bought a lower end GT instead. The XFX cards are good for overclocking, I know because I have one. But, if you dont care about overclocking just get a cheaper one. For around 30 quid more you can get the MSI (134966) or the Point of View (135258). They both have good ratings and should be worth the extra cash.

If you dont want to spend that much more at least go 10 quid more and get the XXX version which is already overclocked (139895) This should give a bigger boost to game play.

You could also buy into the 9600 series. I know they will need some driver work initially, but they are about the same price as the XXX GS and are more powerful.

I know I have left that quite open, but hope it has been of some help.

Don't get confused between system ram and graphics ram.

The DDR3 in this case is on the card it's self and is pre installed/fixed.
