Excellent CPU

Just installed this CPU on a ASUS P5KC board quickfind code: 132275 updated bios to 0903 via bios EZflash no problems, very fast although Windows Vista only gives it 5.5 Experience Points ! Easily overclocks to over 3.5Ghz using a Zalman CNPS9500A quickfind code: 140478 was going to get a Q6600 Quad Core QuickFind Code: 131823 but this CPU runs cooler, uses less power and is 45nm technology as well.

Very fast, efficient and great value

Purchased 20 March 2008 after doing some research. I wanted decent performance without paying silly money. I paid GBP112 inc VAT. Also considered E6750 (similar price) and Q6600 Quad (GBP144).

Went for this because it is fastest per core and the most energy efficient too. For the most part I wouldn't utilise four cores. I do a lot of intensive data analysis and one analysis I run used to take around 6 hours with P4, now under 2 hours!

Used with Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R (quickfind 136366) and easily managed to clock up from 2.66GHz to 3.4GHz with standard fan. Settled at 3.2 and staying pretty cool even when flat out for several hours, so I'm getting better than standard E8500 performance for price of E8200.

Also purchased:

OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory Platinum (quickfind 132904)

2 x Seagate ST3250410AS 250GB (131301) as RAID 1 (board has RAID built in)

Optiarc AD-7200S 20X DVD+/-RW/DL/RAM (139414)

Coolermaster Elite 330 (127584)

Antec EarthWatts 430W 80%+ Efficiency PSU (120376)

Threw in a spare video card alongside the onboard for dual screen.

Really pleased with this system and all for GBP410. A very fast and very quiet system.

My system runs great with Vista Ultimate x64 4GB OCZ Reaper RAM and XFX 8600GTS XXX - plenty of opportunity for overclocking :)Does 3 GHz quite happily - not seriously O/Cd it yet due to lack of accurate CPU temp sensing on my ABIT IP35 Pro... - awaiting BIOS update!

Bought one of these with an Asus PK5-E motherboard, 2gb ram, 512mb 3850 and it absolutely flies! Top marks eBuyer and Asus for making the BIOS idiot proof!

ordred this cpu for a new build after being a fan of AMD for so long i had my arm twisted to go intel so i did and im glad i did as this chip is mental it runs so cool mine is between 10/12c idel and 15c when clocked to 3ghz 1500 FSB using AI booster and definetly leaves my old AMD 5200+ for dust. why waste the extra on 8400 when this can do 3ghz with standard fan easy,,Must get me a freezer pro!! works well with asus p5kc mobo after a bios update to unleash cpu full power and power it has...

Fast efficient CPU
review by: Anonymous os: Windows Vista

I chose this CPU because uses less power than its predecessors. I ended up building a PC around this processor on an Asus P5E-VM HDMI motherboard with 2GB DDR2 memory, SATA hard disk and PATA DVD drive. Windows (Vista Business) feels suitably snappy on it. The whole thing draws 65 watts when it's running, which seems very gentle on the power consumption and means the motherboard's fan-controlling feature can run the system quietly. So I'm very satisfied. The supplied fan is actually reasonably good; the CPU temperature seems to stay at around 40-45C.

Overclocks nicely at stock voltages
review by: Chrisrating:

Replaced an E4400 with this E8200. My E4400 was clocked at 2.90GHz at stock voltages and this CPU outperforms it at stock speeds (2.66GHz).

Needless to say, when overclocked to 3.40GHz - again, at stock voltages - it runs a lot faster! :-)

Very happy with this and now I'm wishing I had purchased better memory as I think that'll be the limiting factor on further overclocks.

With an Asus PK5-E motherboard, 2GB Corsair XMS, and a noddy Graphics card, I am up to 3.2Ghz on the stock cooler - 24c idle, 51c with Orthos stressing both cores to 100%. I would guess I could go to 3.4 on stock cooler and still be under 55c. It's all just too easy...and all this from a CPU that costs the same as a bad night out.
