Super Fast

Got one of these back in February just after they came out. The included fan/heatsink are noisy and not very good at cooling, so getting the OEM is probably the better option (though warranty wise it's worse, of course) if it's cheaper - price seems to fluctuate.

Cooling: I have a P182 with five 120mm Hiper fans but it contains a Geforce 8800 GTS which can get toasty. I stuck a thermalright ultra 120 on the processor, together with an antec 120mm fan, and the reults are impressive. Stock heatsink and fan gave 52C under normal conditions, rising to 59 under load. At stock speed, the thermalright is 31 idle / 39 load.

Overclocking: let's be honest, if you want one of these it's to push it. Firstly, get some good RAM. My RAM can only go to 440MHz FSB so that it the limit of my system's stability. Still, that gives 4.18GHz which is a whole GHz more than stock. The intel fan can't handle this, but the thermalright has no problem and temps are 37 idle to 45 under load. Happy with this, since it's Orthos / Prime95 stable (tested for 36 hours). I tried some other RAM (faster but only 2GB, compared to my slower 4GB which is usually installed) with which I was able to hit 5GHz (unbelievable) but although it would boot Vista64 it was not stable. My highest stable clock (tested Orthos/Prime95 for 8 hours) was 4.6 GHz with a 485 FSB, and again temps weren't much higher.

Hardware: For all of this I used an Asus P5K and Corsair 620W Power unit. To reach stable overclocks beyond 3.6GHz it was necessary to bump up the voltage by a small amount to 1.3. My previous processor was a measly Athlon64 3500 so needless to say this is a massive leap, but I can also say with certainty that I was right to return to Intel (which I haven't touched since the Pentium 2).

I cannot recommend this processor enough. It eats anything, be it game or app and is very cool into the bargain.

What can i say, amazing processor. You can over clock it to over 4ghz but you really wont need to, its still amazing at its set speed. Its one of the best for its price and would recommend it to anyone

great cpu
review by: Anonymous os: Windows Vista

My previous CPU was a amd64 3500, so needless to say this was a huge upgrade. All I can say is ''WOW!''. I'm still running it on the stock fan & heat sink, but will be buying a decent cooler soon, and then we'll see just what this puppy can do! ;P

Great CPU not the best to install (intel)

This is a great CPU but to get it to work you need to almost break the motherboard to fit the thing. When you think you have installed it correcly the machine powers off after about 30 seconds..more if it's not installed on a gigabyte motherboard .This is due to overheating.

refit / reseat the heatsink yet again and power up..wow it works..and how .This is fast .It is still worth 5 stars as it's a great cpu but the heat sink connections suck, so it only gets 4
