D2X Review
os:
Windows VistaBought one of these after reading many glowing reviews, and creatives poor x fi support.
Installed it and i wasnt disapointed, great sound.
Need a floppy power connector though.
amazing sound
os:
Windows VistaBought one last week after having one of top range from Creative and I must say what a good decision i made. the sound is phenomenal and so good that you stop trusting your ears.
Guys this is the card you should invest in without thinking about money and I can promise you that dissapointment as a word will be effaced from your dictionary.
Regards,
Swat
Amazing
os:
Windows VistaI have an Abit IP35 pro which had one of the better realtek chips for the onboard audio.
This Asus D2X just blows it away, do not hesitate, get one now, all the sounds are just so clear now!
Plus its 100% stable on my Vista 32bit ultimate.
Awesome
os:
Windows XPWorks Fine I Love THe sound Quality better than all the sound cards ive had before.
had to disable my onboard sound for it to work i think thats just an XP thing though.
Better than X-Fi for Vista and Linux
os:
Windows VistaI used to have an X-Fi. Creative don't half make great hardware...and rubbish software. I loved the X-Fi for what it could do for low quality MP3s. But I recently replaced my Windows XP installation for a Vista and Ubuntu dual boot. The X-Fi drivers for Vista were awful, I had alsorts of dropouts and problems. And the drivers for Ubuntu didn't work, unless you have a degree in computer science you can forget about using an X-Fi on Linux.
So I did a bit of checking and came across this little beauty. After rave reviews I stumped up the cash and I'm so glad I did. Music (which is now mostly flac files on my machine) sounds so much better than on the X-Fi. And no more dropouts, pops or any problems of any description! And when I booted Linux it worked straight away, it didn't even have to install drivers. The boot up jingle sounded the first time I booted Ubuntu after intalling this card.
Yes, it's a lot of money for a soundcard, but if you care about quality, and especially if you have Vista, it's the card of choice. The rest of you can stick to onboard sound and 10 quid speakers.
Big thumbs up from me.
Sound!!!!
os:
Windows VistaI purchased one of these to replace my old creative X-FI extreme music card. The reason for replacing is my X-FI gave me some headaches with Vista, the in game sound was crackling and cutting out etc!!
Anyhow got this card, installed it and my PCIx1 slot would not recognise the card, thus wouldnt install the driver. I have now fitted the card to my spare PCIx16 slot and everything is fine. The sound is great and even better now its connected to my 5.1 system via the supplied optical cable. Thumbs up for Asus, its about time Creative had some competition!
I would give the card five stars, although all the hassle i had with it not being recognised in the PCIx1 slot i have resorted to four.
what a card
os:
Windows Vista5 stars for quality.
ive just replaced my xf-i extreme music card even though i was happy with it because i heard good things about this one, I was a little sceptical about the rave reviews this card has been getting but my sceptism was miss-placed, this card is so much better the sound quality is crystal clear, but only bother to get this card if you have a damn good headset (i use sennheiser p160) or a good quality 7.1 surround sound system. it is everything the reviews say it is.
only one downside, the card is very long and will not fit in the top pci slot on my motherboard as the ram gets in the way, so it sits in between my two HD4870 graphic cards, its a tight squeeze and it half overlaps one of my graphic card cooling fans.
4 stars for card size.
my spec:
Asus maximus formula, bios hack, now thinks its a maximus rampage.
two HD4870 in crossfire mode, GPU overclocked to 810Mhz/memory clocked to 1100Mhz.
CPU E8400 3Ghz overclocked to 4.1Ghz.
FSB 500
MOBO running @ 2000Mhz
2 X samsung spinpoint F1 HDD (raid 0)
air cooled/ going to water soon.
It's good, but fiddly
os:
Windows VistaI bought one of these, for the money it's not a bad buy for the sound quality you get.
There is one main problem though, the card overlaps onto the RAM which means if you have 4 RAM pieces in your computer your gonna have problems. Luckily for me I only have 2 RAM pieces so simply moved the RAM to the next slots for Dual Channel.
I would reccomend getting one, well worth the money. As the person below said it does need a floppy PSU connecter.
Four stars only because of the touble installing it.
Great service by ebuyer as normall though.
Floppy Power Connector
The floppy power connecter is so that it can take power directly from the PSU, and not the motherboard. Thats because the power from the PSU is much cleaner, so you get a better sound.
Will this fit......?
I was wondering if anyone has this installed next to a Geforce 9800GTX on an Abit IP35 Pro motherboard?
The PCI-E 1x is directly above the 1st PCI-E 16x and looks pretty tight. I can't find the thickness of the Xonar card to see if this will fit. Any advice would be good.
