Great Drive

Read carefully the 'installation summary' on top of the drive. It's shipped with a jumper set to operate the drive at Sata I speed (1.5 G/bs) If your motherboard supports Sata II, this jumper must be removed otherwise it will default to the Sata I speed. If it's your first drive after IDE, you will notice the general speed increase especially when Windows loads. The drive is more or less a Seagate with a very similar manufacturer code but with a three year warranty. Overall very pleased - all of my previous IDE hard drives have been Seagate or Maxtor and I've never had a problem with any of them. Samsung have also been good if slightly more noisy but somehow sticking to these is generally a safe bet although I suppose you can be unlucky. Supplied OEM - that's without cables, screws or comprehensive instructions. These are available on the Seagate website however. Recommended.

Bought this harddrive along side with a new gfx card and i have to say its brilliant for the price.. I partitioned it in the hope of dual booting but to be honest i dont think i'll bother and just run vista with sp1 on it and load up the 2nd partition with as much stuff as possible like music, movies, games, etc..

Its quiet, loads windows vista in around 10 seconds and quite frankly just awesome!

I really want to buy another one of these but to be honest i wouldnt need one for another year!

awesome buy! thanks ebuyer!

Fantastic Little Drive

Just put one of these drives in my machine and i am very impressed.

as mentioned above the drive is configured to SATA-150 and to get it running a SATA2 speeds the jumper block needs to be removed, i found this slightly tricky as there isn't much room to play with, the best way to get it out is to point that end of the drive to the floor and coax it out with tweezers.

as far as performance goes it is lightning fast taking roughly a second to copy 50gb of data and it gives vista a much needed boost.

it is also very very quiet which is important for me as i use it in a media centre pc.

Fantastic value, just over fifty quid and delivered free from Ebuyer.

I connected the drive to a sata pci expansion card and it works great!

The drive ends up with about 465GB after formatting. I tried to partition and format it using the recommended MaxBlast software from Maxtor's website, but strangely it did not recognize the drive as a Maxtor product.

So, I partitioned and formatted NTFS on the drive with Windows XP disk management. The formatting speed was around 1% a minute, so the whole process was done and the drive was up and running in under two hours.

A great drive for that extra storage!

Been using 3 of these in a RAID 5 since July.

They operate silently. Nice and fast.

Lovely. Runs fast and quiet (at least I don't notice any extra noise from my case).

According to the CPUID hardware monitor, it runs at a pretty consistent 35c, which is a few C's cooler than my other drives (36GB WD Raptor + older Maxtor 160GB).

It only shows 465GB available space when installed & formatted, but that is to be expected of any drive.

All in all, a very good buy

Fast & Quiet

I recently ordered one of these due to lack of space on my existing hard drive and wanted to make the jump from IDE to SATA.

I installed Windows Vista Home Premium with no problems.

I have next to no experience with different types of hard drives but the drive itself is extremely fast. The transfer rate is phonomenal compared to my old IDE and in operation it is silent.

With this being OEM it did not come with a SATA cable but you can buy one from this website for next to nothing!

I am impressed of how quiet this drive is also how responsive it is - compared to my old hard-disk - worth investing in a decent storage - so much room. Going to purchased 2 more whilst they are cheap - good site ebuyer for quality and delivery. Very impress and highly recommended.
