FANTASTIC
os:
Windows VistaBought one of these to act as a baby monitor - quite simply superb results!
It connects via my netgear wireless router and can be viewed on my home PCs through a local IP (doesn't affect download caps from ADSL suppliers) or can be viewed online www if you have a decent broadband provider who gives you a fixed IP. This meant that my mother in Scotland and brother in Paris can view it and check in on the babys' nursery whenever they choose, plus the access is password protected.
The emphasis on this cam from the y-cam white is it's night time IR ability so there is compromise on the picture quality for daytime viewing but the IR picture is excellent. I have just returned from holiday and whilst away moved this to my living room and activated the motion sensor/email alert on it. I was astounded that when my neighbour did her daily check on our house it took 4 good quality shots of her and emailed them to my gmail account - incredible! Even if a burglar did smash this up during a theft it will already have emailed you a picture of his/her face.
I did a lot of research into WiFi cams when our baby was born because standard baby monitors were badly degraded by my WiFi signal, most were very expensive and i was pensive when i bought this. I need not have been, easy to set up with great support from the y-cam site this is the way ahead for internal security or simply monitoring the carpet commando.
FIRST CLASS
Excellent bit of kit!

Not ApplicableI was not very clued up when I bought one of these, but now it's the best thing since sliced bread!
Really easy to set up, I went for a day and night one to start with and have just orderd the white Y-Cam to use in a reception area where night vision is not required.
Just thinking about getting 2 of these for home as well.
Peace of mind these days means an awful lot!!! Believe me! Lol
it works on my mac, great!!!!!!!
it says in the spec. camera supports mpeg-4. I can view from my Macbook. what a wonderful surprise !!!!!!
Fabulous product

Windows XPGot it working in a couple of minutes, brilliant picture quality, easy access from external web - very hard to improve on this!
In a perfect world we would have wireless power, but this still seems just beyond of possibility.
Could not recommend this product highy enough. Will be buying more, that's for sure.
Good, but with caveats
os:
Windows XPA great little IP camera. Picture quality is very good both in daylight and darkness with the built-in infra-red illumination. The IR LEDs have a slightly visible red glow if you look at them directly, but do not light up the room visibly.
The camera claims to support WPA2 wireless security but I found it to be unreliable on my router (Linksys WAG200G), connecting only occasionally and then tending to lose the connection after a while. It was more reliable with lesser security methods such as WEP, but I am not prepared to lower the security of my wireless network so for now am using a network cable for the camera and hoping for a firmware update in future to fix it.
Motion detection works, but is a bit tricky to set up reliably. It is capable of emailing a snapshot whenever movement is detected and this function works very well. But the motion detection is either too sensitive and emails me pictures of an empty room frequently throughout the day, or is not sensitive enough and fails to notice when I walk into the empty room to test it! Sensitivity and threshold can be adjusted via the web interface but I am still struggling to find a suitable compromise somewhere between the two. What makes it harder is that the same sensitivity settings are used both in daylight and infra-red mode. The infra-red lights up passing specks of dust very brightly which triggers the motion detection. It would be nice to be able to reduce the sensitivity just when infra-red is being used.
There is no provision for setting a schedule so that motion detection is only active during certain times of the day. I use this as a secuirty camera but I don't want it snapping me every few seconds while I am at home. I have bought a remote controlled electrical socket so I can switch the camera on remotely when I go out and switch it off when I come home before I open the door.
In conclusion, the picture quality is very good so great just for monitoring a room by streaming video, but it is let down by the wireless security problem and its utility as a security device is limited.
Good Monitor, not useful for security
os:
Not ApplicableVery easy to setup, wireless, motion detection, email notification, ftp upload. Full Marks for these.
The motion detection is not really useful and so lets this camera down for security use where notification is required of movement accompanied by a picture. There are loads of false alarms.
Overall not bad product.
Two questions...
Hi,
Can any one tell me if this can be used outside ? I am guessing by the look of the power and LAN connectors it isn't.
What are the ports on the ADSL router that need enabling so that remote access from the internet can be achieved ?
REPLY: No this is not an outdoor camera, however there is an outdoor casing available.
The ADSL router port query, please visit Y-Cam website and they will be able to answer your query.
Thank you
Question.
Are these the 2nd generation of Y-Cam black?
Question
I am looking at getting a couple of IP cameras to monitor outside of home, fixed on the cars etc.. I would like to know if this camera has the ability to record video to a NAS drive continueslly?
Also if you use the ethernet port on the cam does it get its power from that or do you still have to plug it into the mains?
Thanks
