Great Board
os:
Windows XPThis motherboard is one of the best i have used, overclocking features are endless, even the basic setup was simple, the bios detected all my hardware without any problems and although this board has crossfire support and NOT sli, i am running a single nvidia graphics card with no conflicts, didn't have to update bios either, this board is the 'black pearl edition' and has been designed to work with water cooling sytems and obviously air cooled, packed with features, too many to list so goto asus's web site and have a look, i've always bought asus and always will you dont get much better, my build consists of-
Aplus twin engine case.
Asus P5k Premium M/board.
Intel Q6600 Quad core 2.4Ghz.
Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.
2Gb DDR2 800 Corsair XMS2 CL4.
Maxtor 500Gb SataII HDD.
XFX 8600GT XXX Version 256Mb.
NEC Sata DVD-RW Drive.
650w Modular PSU.
The graphics card will be getting upgraded to 8800GTS soon, other than that i have a excellent gaming system for not a lot of money, great motherboard well worthy of 5 stars.......
Its not a Gigabyte
os:
Windows VistaI am Gigabyte fan but Custom PC said this is a beast for overclocking...
It is and its the best. I am now moving towards being a Asus man instead!
Asus make the best motherboards ever!
os:
Windows XPBought this to upgrade my system from an AMD 4600+ using the A8N-sli premium.
I have always used ASUS boards since i started building my systems, and so far (touch wood), have never had any issues.
They run fine, nice and cool and stable.
If you want a 100% stable system, you cant go wrong with asus.
Great Value Board
Bang for bucks you cant go wrong with this board and was rated best overclocker in a recent Custom PC review. Will overclock it soon waiting on some cooling parts. Very happy with this product. But have got one problem with my 8800 GTS covering number 1 and 2 sata slots. Got round this by using a sata cable with a 90 degree connector, so just managed to get me graphics card in. Nice board from Asus at a great price
compatibilty
Hi everyone i am looking to buy one of these .do i need to update
bios before installing a q9300 cpu? thank you
Great new build - BUT word of warning!!
os:
Windows VistaCosmos S case
700W modular PSU (coolermaster)
P5K Premium Black Pearl
4 gig Cosair 1066 Dominator [from overclockers!!]
E8400
Freezer Pro7
existing 8800GTX
XFI Fat-lity
Vista 64
RAPTOR 64g
After weeks of research I settled for the above set-up. Couldnt decide whether to go for the quad 6600 or 8400. Went for later and well pleased!
The Cosmos S case is absolutely massive! you cant begin to describe its size. For those who are "concerned" about the hard drive cage and the issues in the reviews - DONT! It is a simple pull out instal slip back. Easy. It is also very quiet too.
This is my 8th build but the first where I have had to flash the bios from day one. I have done this on other occassions using internet/EZ Flash and good ole floppy dos route.
Now for the cautionary tale and the heading! I flashed the bios using the windows route. All going well until it tried to validate. It crashed!!
Worse case scenario ensued. rebooted - mobo wouldnt post. As dead as a Norweigan Blue and making about as much noise.
If you buy this board (and you should!) DONT USE THE WINDOWS METHOD. Revert to the floppy - safer by design.
So why 5 stars?! Well - the PC did boot up under the bios but would hang to recommend an update to 6012. I did a clean instal of Vista and got overal score of 5.8 [not that means much to be honest]
Everything went smoothly. Very impressed with the delivery (shame I had to go to overclockers for the 4gig of ram) and service etc.
I decided to order a replacement mobo and it arrived Friday. Installed it today and everything fine. The best bit is that this board had the updated Bios!!!
Finally - if you have a nightmare Flash and render your board dead then dont attempt to return to Ebuyer on RMA. They will check to see if you have an aborted flash and send it back - you have to pay the postage twice of course! - I didnt do that I hasten to add!

What a pleasure
os:
Windows VistaI really enjoyed building my PC with this board especially when the onboard WiFi just started working and another good moment was the flash update in windows! The only negative thing I have to say is that Vista 64-bit is not perfectly supported. The UAC prevents some Asus processes from starting until I give the admin goahead. These processes are for overclocking, monitoring and WiFi monitoring and are not critical. So despite this I will give the 5-star rating.
Great mobo/overclocker!
os:
Windows VistaMy setup now is a quad9450 at 3.4ghz, 4870x2, antec 900, samsung750.
I replaced a gigabyte ds4 which was 150 quid and this mobo is amazing.
An no overclocker but was able to overclock using the software provided (a.i suite). However I decided to use bios and was as easy as changing my speed multiplier to 450 and leaving rest of settings at auto so all the voltages are done by bios. So now my 4870 x2 is getting the processor power it needs!
I strongly recommend this mobo but dont overclock unless you are sure! Maybe I was lucky but 2 days now and no problems!
To the person with BSOD issues.
Have you tried lowering your RAM frequencies and/or RAM voltage?
I had something similar. Had Vista installed on primary HDD on a different motherboard. Installed my hardware on to this and I get a BSOD just before you see the Vista boot up screen. I used the solution above temporarily and managed to get Windows up and running. You then need to install Asus's motherboard drivers, then you can revert the RAM frequencies and voltage back to [Auto] or your preference.
Running this motherboard with:
Silverstone TJ07 Black
Cooler Master 620W PSU
QX6800 2.93GHz
2GB XMS2 Dominator RAM @ 1066MHz
XFX 8800GT 1GB
750GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 Sata
All air-cooled (Noctua & Akasa amber fans). Works wicked!!
None
I've been using this motherboard for nearly two months with the Reclusa, which connects to the PC via USB. And also has two USB ports. I have not encountered any error with the system booting up or crashing. Maybe it's the keyboard not the motherboard?
