9850 Black Edition
os:
Windows VistaWorks like a charm with GA-MA790X-DS4. Comes with proper cooler - cooper base and 4 heat pipes, and is quiet enough. Using 460w psu with 9850 and 3870. Consumption not exceeding 300w on full power. I was unable to use my EVO98 cooler due to high temp. But it is 125w so go for bigger cooler.
Another quality product from AMD
Amazing!

Windows VistaHad an Athlon 64 X2 4000+ then upgraded to this, it just runs so fast now!
Encodes my videos 3-4 times faster, do what ever I want in the background when playing Call of Duty 4 and Adobe Priemer Pro runs so smoothly now.
This cpu is alot better than I thought, as everyone kept saying Intel slightly better, glad I got this, AMD RULZ! :-D
Brilliant!

Not ApplicableThis is an absolutely incredible CPU - I'm certain I made the right choice. It's a 125W 65nm model so it does kick out a lot of heat, but the stock cooler keeps it within its safe range under full load, so the only problem is there's a limit to how much you can overclock it. I personally wouldn't take it above 2.7GHz.....
I'm using it with an MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard and 4GB DDR2 PC2-8500. What an aptly named processor... It's phenomenal!
Phenom over clocks very well.

Windows VistaSome one as asked will this CPU work with my AM2 board?
Go to the manufacture website of the board and they should have listed some where on there site if the board will work with this CPU. A lot of the old AM2 boards via a bios update will then work with an AM2+ CPU. My motherboard is an Asus M2N32-SLI Delux, after 3 repairs and 2 exchanges (repair time 12 weeks) I now have a working motherboard; because of the problems I have had I would not buy an Asus board ever again. Any way the AMD 9850 works very will, my system runs very fast now, It is encoding HD .kmv files to HD-WMV much faster now and I can still use the PC, still stream videos to my Xbox 360, use the internet, play games, with no slow down, the cooler that came with it is good, but if you want to over clock then you need to change the cooler. This CPU will clock to 3 GHz on air with no problems. I have had it up to 3.1 GHz & others on liquid have had it up to 3.4 GHz. For the money this CPU is very good value.
Such an improvement!

Windows VistaHaving gone from a 1.4ghz Intel laptop to this, you certainly notice the difference. I have thrown everything I can think of at this processor, just to make it seem to be struggling. It is just superb. Easy to overclock, but with the amount of power this thing is chucking out, why would you need to? Need a new processor, look no further
noisy....

Windows Vistaadded this last night, comp runs so much faster now, the fan is very good and doesnt make much noise atall, however, the actual chip makes a fair racket, the annoying clicking sounds i associated with old computers.... ive got lots of vents in my case (antec 900) so that probably doesnt help...
amazing...

Windows Vistaive already overclocked to 2.7 with the stock cooler, temp is not going over 41 idle!. will buy a better cooler and test it to the max! i dont like the look of the stock cooler as it is just a square block... nothing special.

Windows XPI have an asus m2n32sli deluxe motherboard and this runs too hot in my 3d games.
The stock cooler isn't man enough for the 125w this thing needs to run.
As the board is only using the nvidia 590 chipset it can't run the chip to its full potential.
I have had to turn the core voltage down to 1.100v in the cpu set up and the frequency is set to 11.
I would advise anyone buying this to check that their motherboard uses the nvidia 790 chipset and buy a bigger cooler to run it properly.
When all is said and done I'm still pleased to have this cpu, but had I known about the
590/790 requirements I would have bought a triple core instead as these run a 95w cpu and my board can handle that.
Make sure your motherboard supports 125w
Buying a motherboard and CPU is a bit of a nightmare... well, it was for me. There are so many choices and it's easy to get it wrong. Like I did. This CPU has a TDP of 125w. The motherboard I bought only supports up to 95w. It's a simple mistake to make but I now have to pay to send the CPU back and get a different one. Ah well, you live and learn!
Will this work on a AM2 mobo?
