Sata II

I bought one of these, its fairly solid but i got it as a bit of a gimmick and now i'm not sure if it will really be any use.

Just wanted to comment that this product worried me because it says SATA 150Gb/s on the cover that pops down when you remove the caddy. SATA 150 is basically another name for sata I.

I tested it and my hard drive is running at SATA II (SATA 300Gb/s) speeds. So this product wont be detrimental to your transfer speed if you have a SATA II drive.

Great, but not perfect

These are a bargain at 3.99!

The build quality is pretty good, and it all seems to work - I bought 3 and filled up all my spare 5.25" spaces.

However - my system could not boot when putting the system drive into one of these!

So I've had to leave my Windows HD as is, and just put any additional HDs in these.

I'm not sure if its a BIOS or chipset issue though.

Issues
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

OK, I had lots of issues with Windows crashing, and slow speeds etc, turns out that it was because I had plugged these into SATA II ports.

Once I plugged them into SATA I ports they workd fine!

Not bad for the price

It does the job - and it also seems to work fine when connecting to SATA2 ports, although I haven't tested throughput.

However, it does feel VERY flimsy. Cheap lightweight plastic that's bound to break soon. Having said that, it looks OK, and for under a fiver, you can't really go wrong!

Should be Lock but no fan

Mine arrived yesterday and is now fitted, quite easy to do apart from the securing holes don't line up in my case, so shall have to find some other way to clamp it (maybe some meccano).

Like I said no fan, but apart from that its okay for under 6 pound.

Doesn't use a sata power connecter, just the normal one.

I wouldn't like to take it out a lot, but I didn't buy it for that reason, I only had a spare DVD slot so thought I'd try one of these.

Same as Ebuyer Type
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

NOTE

This is exactly the same has the Ebuyer type. If you are happy with beige then get the Ebuyer one, a quid cheaper and comes with 2 cooling fans.
