Re: Big Drive But
"931 GB when formated and that takes 4 hours fast, quiet and cool.Little dissapointed at losing 69 GB"
You Didn't lose 69GB!
Its due to a difference in standards between hard drive manufactures and OS makers. A Terabyte (TB) is a decimal multiple of the number of bits, the binary multiple is called a Tebibyte (TiB). !n a Terabyte there are 1000 Gigabytes, in 1GB there are 1000MB and so on.
In a Tebibyte there are 1024 Gibibytes, in 1GiB there are 1024MiB and so on.
When the hard drive manufactuer says 1 Terabyte they caluculate it decimally, however Operating systems calculate space using binary.
so...
1 Terabyte = 1000000000000 Bytes (1000 * 4)(TB > GB > MB > KB > B)
seeing as the operating system uses binary we must divide this number by 1024 4 times.
1000000000000 / 1024^4 = 931.322574615478515625
Therefore you have got a 1 terabyte hard drive but the OS says 931 gigabyte.
The OS should really say, 931 Gibibytes.
This is capacious and fast
operating system:
Windows XPWell, I received one of these about a week ago and it is living up to its formidable reputation. A comprehensive review can be found at http://tinyurl.com/4fkzz5
This drive benchmarks really well in all departments and at this price is a steal. One of the fastest SATA2 drives around and trounces the Raptor drives.
just wow
i got 5 of this for my home media server.fast like anything even with 1080p hd steaming over 1gb network.doesnt make any noise im realy happy with this hdds planing to buy another 8 soon good price ebuyer 98.92 with free delivery cant go wrough
Super Quiet and VERY Fast Drive.
operating system:
Windows XPI recieved one of these on Friday having ordered it on Thursday night (top notch service yet again ebuyer!) along with a usb2/esata enclosure.
My main use of this drive is as portable backup stoage of audio data which I use for audio production work. Due to the nature of this work I need my drives to be fast the faster the better.
From the two nights I've spent with this drive I can easily say I am VERY happy with it. The drive is SILENT. Absolutely quieter than a mouse. I can hold it to my ear (in the enclosure) and still stuggle to hear it spinning or even seeking!!
Even over usb2 from an external enclosure, the transfers to and from the drive and seek times are noticeably fast.
I am so impressed with this drive I'm contemplating swapping my seagate 500GB boot drives in both my machines for the 500's in the spinpoint F1 range.
I recommend you all do the same.
Time will tell if the 600k hours mtbf is accurate.
@not 1tb guy. It is 1 terabyte.
"A terabyte (derived from the prefix tera- and commonly abbreviated TB) is a measurement term for data storage capacity. The value of a terabyte based upon a decimal radix (base 10) is defined as one trillion (short scale) bytes, or 1000 gigabytes."
Bought one of these drives a while back. When it was working it was great, but then it had some sort of error that SMART detected so I had to RMA. Still rate it highly.
Great buy!!!
operating system:
Windows VistaI bought to replaced my old Seagate 7200.10 750GB and 500GB and already installed this new drive - seem it good buy from Ebuyer (go and get one before too late) - it run so fast also cooler and quieter also when I updated Vista SP1 via update it took 47 mins as Seagate was 2 hrs 5 mins - i would say it good buy after all!!
Well pleased with performance.
operating system:
Not ApplicableThis drive is just as quick transferring files as my Raptor 150Gb. but I will still use the Raptor for the C: drive because of the quicker access times and well,,, because it cost so much per MByte.
The drive is also very quiet, as everyone is confirming.
I have 2 of these now and split them 60/40 to create a Raid0/Raid1 setup and I'm well happy. Copying/Editing large video files is fast and the Backup speeds using a partition manager are amazing.
100 quid for 1TB is boggling considering my first hard disk was 80MByte.
The best TB harddrive but a word of warning
operating system:
Windows VistaNvidia SATA controllers on vista with these hard drives (I can vouch for the nforce 6 series with the nforce 4 southbridge) have issues with these drives hanging under heavy reading/writing.
There are conflicting reports of whats the best drivers to use but I've found that turning off command queuing on the drive in the controller properties in device manager seems to solve the problem.
Other than the compatibility problems this drive pretty much blows the rest away.
Excellent Drive
operating system:
Windows VistaThese drives are excellent, as are the 500GB versions.
I have used 2 of these and 3 of the 500GB version recently and the access speeds are great!
Using these ones on a RAID 1 and the storage capacity is awesome, well worth it and I'll probally upgrade them again when they release 2TB versions!
Quiet runner, comes with no SATA cable (as you would expect being OEM), but does come with the screws (not that anyone doesn't have a mountain of identical ones lying around)
Would definatly recommend and will continue to use these drives.
Wicked
operating system:
Windows VistaIve got two of these in raid 0 and i can exract an iso of 4.7 gb in 60 sec flat much faster than anything ive had before gonna get two more cant wait to run four in raid
