Excellent caddy
os:
Not ApplicableThis is an excellent caddy - easy to assemble and very noise-insulating. The fan is almost silent, as well.
Haven't tried out the eSATA feature though - as it only comes with a USB2.0 cable.
Excellent product

Windows VistaNeeded an external HDD to back up my music to, and decided to buy a Samsung SpinPoint 500gb internal drive to put into this enclosure. It is easy to use, and the combination was up and running in less than 10 minutes. It is quiet, and runs cool. The only improvement would be to supply an eSata cable. Apart from that, this is a brilliant buy!
Execlent caddy
os:
Windows XPSuper silent fans. Esata works like a charm and is super fast transferring files from my local server at around 40gb an hour. Could be faster but backbone is only 100mb network.
great product
os:
Windows XPsimple to set up and installation of a drive takes a few minutes. no instructions, but it's not too taxing to figure out. all hardware is supplied, including the screwdriver, so no hunting around for suitable bits.
power supply and usb outs are the same as for the other sumvision caddies, so instant compatibility with the older IDE caddies i have and also meant i didn't need to unpack the power supply or cables etc.
very quiet operation and looks a lot more stylish than the silver predecessors.
bargain at 13 quid or less
works under linux
os:
LinuxJust ordered one of these with a 500Gb samsung spinpoint disk.
Set up was easy. Configured as an ext3 filesystem under ubuntu using gparted was all point and click.
Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy Gibbon) and fedora 6 have no problems detecting the drive.
You can buy an enclosure that has a better build quality. But you can't beat this for sheer value for money. It's great
Good product

Windows VistaI bought this to recover data from a corrupted hard disk from a crashed machine - it did the job. Now it's fitted with a 500gb disk and I use it for storage and backups.
It takes just a minute or two to install a hard disk and it works - SATA only. Small footprint, quality is fine.
eSATA not quite as trouble free as you might think
os:
Windows XPBought this device but eSATA wasn't playing ball. XP would hang when booting up, or sometimes BIOS would even hang.
Turns out eSATA isn't so good with SATA II (3.5 Gb) as the voltage levels aren't really strong enough for the extra eSATA cabling/connectors (I had bought ebuyer's 2 meter eSATA cable!).
SOLUTION:
>> Everything went fine when I altered the jumper of the HD to put it into SATA I (1.5 Gb) mode. [still plenty fast enough of course!]
Also, Windows XP by default doesn't support SATA hot swapping. Need to enable AHCI mode in BIOS and load drivers into Windows XP. Of course, this isn't that easy as without the drivers XP won't boot!! Found link with instructions to do this but not tried it:
http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=444831
>> Finally, about this product: It's great value but, as other reviews have said, the SATA cable is a bit long and you have to carefully tuck it in as you put the cover over the drive. Otherwise, it could dislodge the connector.
Excellent product

Windows XPReceived this today with the usual top notch ebuyer delivery and have to day I'm very impressed.
Build quality seems very good for the price although the documentation is a little thin - but thanks to the video on the product page I was able to overcome the uncertainty over whether to use both cables included.
No hassles with installing my Samsung 500GB spin point (also bought from Ebuyer) plugged in and was detected first time by my laptop.
Just backing up my laptop then will be onto my other PC's & maybe PS3
Overal very pleased
Works well with eSata
os:
Windows XPBought this along with with a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB and an eSata cable (all from ebuyer).
Fitted the drive no problem and hooked it up to my desktop using the eSata cable (not the USB cable supplied). Switched it on. No response from Win XP - you have to format the drive 1st. I used windows own 'Admin tools' on the control panel to do this. Under the 'Storage' heading select 'Disk management'(your new drive will appear in the bottom window although you may have to scroll down to find it). Right click on it (inside the larger white rectangle rather than the smaller grey one), select "create partition" and then format as an NTFS drive. It took nearly 2 hours to full format the drive (there's probably a quicker/easier way of doing this) ....and that's it! No driver issues with eSata or problems hot swapping etc...
Total storage capacity after formating is 931GB.
I comapared both the USB connection against the eSata connection. Copied a 1GB file in 53 seconds using the USB cable. Copied the same file in 32 seconds using the eSata cable! (I have a Quad Core Processor and 2 GB ram in my system). Don't think I will be using the USB cable much!
The whole unit is very quiet! Excellent product - no hassles and works extremely fast! Only downside is that it doesn't look amazing, but who cares at 12.99 stirlings! Picking a quality drive to go inside the thing is what really counts I guess!
Sumvision Comes of Age
os:
Windows XPAs always Ebuyer were lightning fast in delivery.
First impressions are that the unit looks very professional.
Older units from Sumvision have rather looked like a case made out of some bent metal with a big green LED on it and some tiddly PCB inside.
By contrast this has a nice brushed matt aluminium feel to it, soft corners, a nicely done fan at the back, two interfaces (USB and eSata) a nice on/off switch, an activity light at the front and even a stand for vertical positioning. My only criticism would be that the plastic front doesn't quite live up to the high standard of the metal parts and back plate - a tiny bit cheap - though not disastrously so.
The box says that it comes with an eSata lead but infact this is to connect up the drive internally - you will need to buy a seperate one to hook the whole bundle up to your PC (or used the enclosed USB cable).
Installation of a Samsung Spinpoint hard drive into the unit was very simple (they even supply a cheap mini screw driver to open the case - so wel done Sumvision).
And all for 13 quid. All in all an amazingly good deal.
Very impressed.
