BARGAIN!
os:
Windows VistaHad my eye on this laptop for a while but I didn't really need a new one. Bought one yesterday when I saw they are now doing the 50 pounds cashback deal on this. Total bargain!
Samsung 17IN W, XGA+, T8100(2.1G), 3GB, 320G, Multi DL-LS, 128MB, HDMI/Webcam, Laptop
os:
Windows VistaGreat laptop, Performance is really good and and is a very suitable replacement for your old desktop. It has full extended keyboard. Look feel is excellent and I found battery life set as balanced to give you a good 3 hours.
5/5 for me. Very impressed with Samsung products.
Ensure you apply latest BIOS upgrade as my screen became corrupted. Samsung help centre very good
My first laptop
os:
Windows VistaThrilled with this so far. Had it a couple of weeks, fantastic price at 540.00 from eBuyer, 3GB Ram, massive 320GB hard drive.
The Samsung is everything you hope it will be - a dream to type on, full size keyboard is perfect, build and feel oozes quality, a gorgeous piano-black piece of kit. Looks do matter to me :-)
My priorities were:
Quiet - this is. You can hear that its running, but very quietly indeed, and I'm happy watching things on this, the hard drive or fan do not distract.
Capacity and speed - 320GB hard drive and 3GB RAM - all I need!
Desktop replacement - I didn't need to sacrifice anything for portability, though as desktop replacements go, this is not the heaviest.
17" screen - yep, widescreen and lovely. I'm not sure some of my photos look quite as amazing in colour as they did on my Acer TFT, but perhaps I need to play around a bit more. I'm not used to laptops with the angled screen!
I had thought I would want a separate mouse, having never had a laptop before. But I love using the pad, it feels very comfortable.
If you are considering getting rid of your desktop for a laptop to make space in your life or living room, I thoroughly recommend this.
Oh, the speaker isn't bad either. Certainly packs a lot of sound in, though to my ears they are too tinny for much music use, but that's really not what they're meant for. For DVDs or TV etc, ideal, I'd say. Oh, and watching a DVD is very comfortable on this screen with this resolution.
Sorry for the meandering review, but these are my bunched thoughts as a new owner of this machine. I have no regrets, and I compared laptops for a fortnight solid before buying (could have ended up with a Toshiba or an Acer). Very very pleased with where all my research led me.
Decent desktop replacement
os:
Windows VistaMy super-powerful desktop recently burned down, and due to space restrictions I decided to get a good laptop instead.
While my desktop cost over twice as much as this laptop, I was surprised that it could handle most of the tasks I threw at it.
It has excellent multi-tasking capabilities due to the Core 2 Duo, and more RAM than you can shake a stick at.
Advantages:
- Good multi-tasking performance
- Very high spec for what you are paying, specially the 320GB hard drive
- HDMI output direct to your HDTV
- Has cleverly placed USB ports to reduce cable tangling
- Well placed vent on the side for cooling
- Full-size keyboard
- Sleak, glossy design
Disadvantages:
- Graphics card can handle some basic games, but nothing spectactular
- Barely any ports (i.e. for monitor, 5.1 sound, PS/2)
- Battery life is average (about 2 hours), but you won't be moving this around much anyway
- Mouse touchpad feels a bit akward (that may just be me however, as I've never had a laptop before!)
I give it 4/5!
