A good choice
os:
Windows XPI also bought the 701 model on release and the EEE range is just getting better...
I wasn't going to go for the 1000H and orginally wanted the 901 with Linux as the XP SSD is to small for my liking but I choose this instead and it's great.
For a bonus I assumed that Atom's only came in SINGLE core but it turns out this is a DUAL core and it's very good.
It's just small/light enough to be carried around but the power in there is nearly as good as any laptop.
(from what i've seen) Changing the HDD to another 2.5 Sata drive should be easy to replace with a 7200rpm or over 80GB if needed. The RAM is also easy to change out for a 2GB module instead of 1GB.
Great buy and fast delivery as always from Ebuyer.
Nice machine
os:
Windows XPI've been trying to decide between this and the MSI Wind for a while and went with this in the end as the 6-cell battery version of the Wind is rumoured to not be available until September.
It's a bit heavier than the MSI Wind (I've played around with the Advent 4211 in PC World, which is the same machine) but has wireless-n and much better battery life.
Boot time is very quick and it feels very responsive.
Re: the other reviewer's comments about dual core - it is definitely single core. It only shows up as two CPUs in Windows as it's hyper-threaded.
Asus EeePC 1000H 80GB WinXP Black, Full Review (+pics)
os:
Windows XPI purchased one of these on 06/08/2008. It is a truly fantastic machine which I would recommend to anyone providing they don't have particularly large hands!

Now Running Vista
os:
Windows VistaNice little laptop that gets admiring looks wherever I take it. Have upgraded it to Vista Business to get it on our domain and it's still quite speedy in use. All the supplied XP drivers work fine in Vista.
I ordered the ebuyer-recommended Corsair 2GB RAM stick for it but unfortunately the machine refuses to see this as anything other than 1GB - RAM has been replaced and the same thing happened, so I assume that it's incompatible. Have ordered some Crucial RAM, so fingers crossed as the extra GB will make a difference to the performance.
It gives a Windows Experience Index of 2.5, if you're interested (CPU: 2.5; RAM: 4.5; Graphics: 4.2; Gaming graphics: 2.7; Hard disk: 4.7)
The trackpad is a bit small for my big fingers & I find the buttons overly stiff but I use a Bluetooth mouse mostly, so that's not a big problem. I find typing on the smaller keyboard a dream - no more mis-keying than on a regular keyboard
Battery life is OK not outstanding but I havent run any proper tests on it. Vista seems to think the battery level is critical with an hour left in it, so maybe I need to do some tweaking of the power management.
Recommended - 5 stars.
Great machine
os:
Windows XPFabulous piece of kit. It boots really quickly, doesn't feel sluggish at all in use, and the battery life is excellent at between 4.5 and 7 hours depending on usage. I bought additional memory but I haven't got around to putting it in yet, because the machine works fine without it.
So easy to pull it out on the plane where it fits neatly on the pulldown tray. The keyboard is ok for typing, although it takes a little getting used to due to its slightly smaller keys. Comes with StarOffice 8 pre-installed, which is a reasonable substitute for MS Office, and the WiFi and Bluetooth work well.
I ditched a high-powered Toshiba because I got fed up of boot times and the weight of it all, and I have had no regrets. It wont play the latest games, but that's no bad thing for productivity.
Just remember to get an external DVD player for installing / backup.
Build quality good. Can't recommend it enough.
Follow up to Help me Decide
I just advised my flat mate to go for an Asus EEE PC 1000h. He took my advice, but I told him that he needs to actually see the model in the flesh so to speak.
I will try to best to answer your questions.
1. Forget the 901. Its keyboard is not adequate. The 1000 series keyboard has been re-designed and has a much better layout. (apart from the right shift key!)
2. Bear in mind there are 3 models of 1000. 1000 (which has linux & only 40gig SSD), 1000h (XP 80gig HDD drive) and the 1000HD (XP and 80 Gid Sata Drive) See spec guide for more details.

3. I advised my flat mate to come with me to the computer shops in London and check out all the models. In the end he bought a Black 1000h.
4. Yes, all 1000 models are slightly heavier (1.45 kg)than than the 901's (1140g) but its still very light compared to most laptops on the market.
5. I personally think you should go for the 1000h model. As you said "fast enough to view photos, move files, etc" My reason is simple, both the 1000 and 1000h were benchmarked online on you tube, and the SSD version was far slower than the 1000h model. The reason is that the SSD (flash) version cannnot write data quick enough and there is a noticeable delay, unlike the 1000h or even 1000hd.
I think you should go to a shop and pick it up, feel the weight. It isn't that heavy, trust me. Its currently the best laptop on the market. Though the MSI Wind is very good too! My flat mate is really chuffed I told him about this great machine. Now I am jealous! Goodluck and please let us all know how you get on?
Excellent Piece of Kit

Windows XPArrived today thanks ebuyer no thanks to citylink :-(
1.Great machine quite powerfull.
2.Keyboard has a full sized enter key also has little or no flex in it.
3.Can run itunes whilist browsing the web with power to spare.
4.Good connectivity but really should have 3g/hsdpa built in. 5.Power brick does get very warm to the touch.
6.Speakers are actualy quite good.
7. Ability to underclock or overclock is great as this really does affect battery power.
8. Shows 5+ hours with medium brighness and underclocking processor.
Hope this helps
Amazing Eee PC 1000 series
This is exactly what I am looking for... Long battery Life of upto 8 hours!
Easy to learn, work and play(EEE).
I would prefer the 40gb SSD - very fast, light wieght, energy efficient and decent amount of space for windows or linux. (EEEPC1000 is better I think)
what a great little laptop
Was very impressed buy the speed it was delivered , I am happy I got the 1000 series as have looked at the 701 and the 904 its just to small as in the keyboard also with this one the 80Gb disk helped make my mind up XP pre installed which is my only gripe would of like the option of a linux version but I wanted to go through Ebuyer
Excellent if your in two minds dont be buy it.
The Perfect Netbook

Windows XPArrived yesterday, and this truly is a fantastic machine.
The keyboard is a really nice size to use comfortably and to do real work on.
The screen is crisp and clear, and the 1024x600 resolution makes it usable for real work, even for extended periods of time, without having to plug an external monitor in.
Windows feels sharp and responsive on the Atom 1.6GHz processor, so any concerns that the processor isn't going to be up to the job, are non-existent. I will point out that I'm just doing email, Skype, browsing and office activities though (no graphic intensive games).
All in all this machine is a great compromise between usability, portability and long battery life. I'm very pleased with it, though would have liked a dual boot option into Xandros Linux for speed of bootup (Windows is still slowing getting started).
