WOW!!!

Windows VistaThese are the new epson printers that epson havnt even released in the UK yet!!!! How do ebuyer do it. I had the D92 before this and I can tell you that this is far superior in every way, Faster, better results and best of all its a lot quieter. Photos are as close to photo lab quality I have ever seen on a sub 40 quid printer. Get this printer while you can..its that good. Loads of reviews on the net...just google it!!!
never again

Windows XPI bought this and received it next day, perfect.
Set it up and connected it. Ist problem it wouldn't recognise two of the cartridges. I uninstalled and re-installed on numerous occasions still to no avail.
2nd problem was the need to get new replacements, being a new printer very few people had them in stock. Eventually found a company but had to pay through the nose.
3rd problem was I contacted Epson concerning this who informed me if i filled in their problem questionaire and returned it to them along with the two cartridges they would test them as it sounded like a faulty chip. Having waited three weeks I contacted them only to be told they hadn't received them and were therefore in no position to follow up my query.
Having always used Epson printers I assured them this would be the last.
As for the product its a good printer in that the quality is good however its slow to print and nowhere near the speeds they advertise.
If you need their after sales service register or record all mailings
The printer from hell

Windows XPBought this printer as a day to day printer to save on my samsung colour laser.
First thing i noticed was the print speed was very slow.
After about 20 - 30 pages the printer came up "invalid cartridge" refering to the black cartridge.
Giving this the benefit of the doubt I assumed that the supplied short fill cartrigdes were empty quickly.
I replaced the black only to find the colour cartridges suffer a similar fate one after another before even a further single page was printed.
A full set of epson cartridges later (T0711 -T0714) all was working - for another 20 - 30 pages then the same again - "invalid cartridge"
To cut a long story short, 3 sets of genuine epson cartridges and 3 sets of copies later, epson finally replaced the printer (you deal direct with epson not ebuyer).
I sent the printer back only to find the repalcement was a recon unit with no paper trays, power lead etc! and i had retuned mine! - be warned.
After connecting up new printer it is just the same. It even says genuine epson cartridges are not genuine. I am not prepared to pay the high price of cartridges to finally resolve this ridiculous situation and the cheapest option is probably to just bin it and buy a different printer from Tesco where I can return items that don't work for my money back - you have been warned - would get zero stars if it was possible.
Epson Killer Chips
BEWARE: I just bought 11 refills and found they can't be installed down to this chip. Ridiculous. Makes the ink real expensive. Won't buy a printer again if they keep this up. Thinking about sending it back as not fit for purpose.<br />

Epson's "Killer" Chip<br />
<br />
One of our readers pointed me to the MIS Associates web site to check out their news. MIS has been selling quality inkjet refill kits and cartridges for a long time now. Here's what they have to say about the new Epson Stylus Photo 870 and 1270 printers:<br />
<br />
"If you are not aware of it, Epson has a new printer series coming, the 870 & 1270. They are an improvement over the current 1200. Images are sharper and will last longer. The price is about the same as the current 1200. The biggest difference is the cartridges, they have a killer chip in them. When they are empty they can not be refilled. Epson claims this is the way they are heading in the future. This is bad news for us and our refilling customers. Many customers have already asked if we will be supporting this printer with our inks and refill kits. The answers is, we sure intend to. It will depend if we can find, or someone else can find a work-around for the killer chip. Reproducing the inks, is well within our capability. We will have to wait and see how difficult a work-around for the chip will be. We expect that the entire 3rd party industry will be working hard on this problem during the next couple of months. A solution should become evident this summer. The other potential obstacle is Epson's attitude towards 3rd party companies, especially the Chinese ones. If they take legal action against 3rd party companies for creating workarounds, then this all becomes much more complicated. We will just have to wait and see what happens. On the positive side, Epson is doing a great job of expanding the horizons of Digital Printing, and for this we are grateful." <br />
<br />
If you're not one of those that likes to refill his own cartridges or buy less expensive third-party cartridges then this will not mean much but it will surely mean that the printing costs with these new printers will be higher.
