Worth the Money and the Effort
operating system:
Windows XPThis unit is one powerful cooler. It drops the temperature considerably below stock coolers, around 20c lower in my tests. Everything about this product shouts quality from the moment you open the box. Even the wierd coloured fan which I've gotten to liking now.
Due to the large Heatsink and large Fan it's quiet, noise is not an issue. However, the size when fitting it can be.
My Advice on fitting for troublefree operation...
1. Check motherboard compatibility at www.noctua.at
2. Ensure your case can accomodate the height of the heatsink (my case is 200mm wide externally and fits it, but do check properly)
3. Read the excellent instructions included in the package.
4. Your motherboard needs to be out of the case first so you can fit the backplate. Now is also a good time to fit the processor as the mounting can interfere with installing the chip.
5. It is preferable to fit the heatsink and fan (everything basically) BEFORE you put the motherboard in the case. As fitting the fan AFTER a motherboard install can be very difficult in certain cases, as I found out! (sometimes motherboard mounting screw holes to the case do not permit this method of installation)
And that's it fitted in about 10 minutes.
Once inside you will soon forget the minor issues about fitting the beast and enjoy your chilly cool and overclockable processor :)
Very Good
operating system:
Windows VistaI just bought one of these after hearing many good things. 1st thing, it is B.I.G, make sure it will fit!(Im using an Antec 900 with no probs.)
2nd as mentioned previously you can only fit with the motherboard out.
3rd read the instructions!!
4th after finally reading them it still took a while and was alot easier with a mate holding the mounts on while I lined up the heatsink. Probably 45mins to fit, for someone without sausage fingers im sure it will be quicker! Awesome cooler and my OC'd E8400 runs approx 40 deg C (still bedding in so should get better). Highly Recommended.
Great
operating system:
Windows XPI ordered this looking to get my computer silenced.
It is definately one powerful cooler.
My OC'd athlon X2 6000+ to 3.3 is now idleing at 30 after a days use.
Its one of the best coolers you can get.
Fits my Antec 300 fine.
Great product
operating system:
Windows VistaManaged to match my old trusty Zalman CNP9500 for temperature with just one fan attached (possible to setup two fans in push/pull configuration).
Comes with two resistors to lower the speed/noise of the fan, not that it needs them as it's practically silent already. Easy to install, requires you remove your motherboard to fit a backplate, but any good cooler will.
Top quality, highly recommended
Difficult to install, but worth the hassle
operating system:
Windows VistaThis is a beast of a cooler, best I've ever had, easily. I was using a pretty good cooler from Zalman, who are renowned for having cool but quiet coolers, so when I stuck this in, I was maybe expecting, at best, a very slight reduction in noise and possibly half a degree or thereabouts off my temps. When I stuck this in, I started it with minimum fan speeds. It was that quiet, at first, I thought the fan had failed - it was only when I actually looked inside my case and saw it spinning that I realised I was wrong. It has also managed to get 7-10 degrees off my temps compared to my old fan - and my old Zalman was a pretty good fan.
Now, it does fall down in two areas:
1) Ease of install. You basically have to dismantle your PC to put it on, as the sheer size of it means it needs a backplate.
2) Looks. It is basically a brown and beige fan on a silver aluminium cooler. No flashy lights, no fancy shape to the cooler, no nothing.
Personally, though, I've never put much worth in looks for items like this - I much prefer that it's good at what it does, rather than looks pretty whilst doing it. Because of that, I can easily discount the second failing, and this cooler is so damn good, I can forgive the first.
Oh, and, if you want some advice, get a Noctua NF-P12 120mm case fan and stick it on the back of the cooler - this will give you even more cooling with no noticable increase in noise. However, you will have to go elsewhere for that, as Ebuyer, for reasons best known to themselves, are no longer stocking them.
Excellent!
operating system:
Windows 7I brought this cooler recently as I wanted to build a very quiet PC and I have to say it is fantastic!
It's almost silent with the Low noise adapter on. My phenom 955 runs at 31-40 degree idle and I have never seen it go above 45 degrees. I do not have a case fan as I like to keep things quiet as possible.
It is only compatible with certain motherboards so check on Noctua website before you buy.
Top notch!
operating system:
Windows VistaHave a 920 CO with 1.35v (yep should have got a DO) at 4gh and temps arent much over 65c after several hours of testing. Replaced one of the stock fans with a ys-tech 2600rpm.
It is big so if you have a case that's in similar in size to a Haf932 it's no trouble. Anything smaller like an antec 900 is ok but will be a tight fit.
It is also very easy to fit. After pushpin cooler like the arctic freezer pro and the true this is the best/easiest/most effective so far.
Although the cm H50 is up there as well, and similar price.
