Great

operating system: Windows XP

Great motherboard, very quick and easy to install using the supplied quick connectors.

ACHI is easy to install with XP, no need to use floppies or slipstream them into a custom install disk: just switch off AHCI, install windows; then copy iaStor.inf from the driver downloaded from asus to windowssystem32drivers; go into device manager and update the primary ide controller with this; restart activating AHCI in the bios then windows has booted update the driver again.

The ExpressGate instant OS is great, it boots before the bios posts so is very quick. Be warned though this motherboard does not have it installed on an onboard SSD - you have to install it to your HDD, trouble is it doesn't work with AHCI! Don't panic though, you haven't been gravely mislead, you can also install it on a thumb drive and it will boot from that, and the upside is that you'll be able to modify the OS (its based on linux) without the fear of bricking your m/b (no hacks available yet, but the work is in progress).

Impressive and stable mainboard

operating system: Windows XP

Bought this to use with a Core 2 Quad Q8300, i set the FSB to 400MHz and windows booted without issues with the new CPU at 3GHz on a 1600MHz FSB and its run rock solid ever since.

Nice array of options in the BIOS for the over clocker and the multitue of ways to saftly update the BIOS is a god send, even if you brick the board flashing it you can still boot from a USB stick and rescue it with ease.

I cant really fault this mobo apart from the niggle of Asus being picky with RAM, i went for a safe bet and used some Crucial with it (quick find 142403) not the fastest on the planet but at least i knew it would work.

Overall a top product for a good price

bendy board, care needed
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows XP

Good basic board with legacy features like Ide & ps keyboard/ mouse, if u dont need raid. My board was warped. This is the first time I have built with an intel cpu. I was worried at the amount of force u have to use to insert the heat sink - board bends a lot. But all is ok. Be careful this board seems thinnish. Good overclock capabilities - able to overclock an Intel 5200 ( 2.5Ghz) to 3.2 just by changing the fsb to approx 250 mhz from 200 m hz& stable & in a good case doesnt get hot. Be careful with ram - cas 5 memory may be a problem. I m glad I didnt go down the AMD board route again. A happy customer

using the Intel Pentium dual core E5200 R0 version
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows XP

In April Intel updated the Dual core Pentium E5200 from version M0 to R0. The Asus website suggests you need the latest 1.02Ga mothboard rather than the earlier 1.02G - Ebuyer sent me the 1.02G end of May & its likely that they will still have some of these in their stock. Asus tech told me this -"Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Lyn and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

The motherboard with pcb 1.02G can support E5200 R0 too. But it is recommended to update bios to 1001 or later to fully use it.

"

So no problems - I tried it, even with the earlier bios; the R0 E5200 is recognised fine. I suspect the R0 version has its sensors closer to the core( a package redo is one of the upgrades) as Asus PC probe records a higher temperature than the MO version (assuming the heatsink has seated well)

Very nice upgrade!
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows XP

Just brought one of these to upgrade my aging 3 year old machine! I needed something that would work with my old(er) RAM, yet could be upgraded when I wanted.

Same with the CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400, yet room for improvement again.

Does what I wanted, runs beautifully, installation easy as always, with plenty of improvement and upgrades in the future before I even think about running the new Intel i5/i7 chips!

Runs a nice gaming rig, without the need of spending tons of money.

Just to add, excellent service from Ebuyer... again. Fast delevery etc etc, you know the drill.

Def a good buy!

Smaall and tricky
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows Vista

Smaller than most Asus atx boards, this helps with room to work but also means components are all quite close together, anything other than a stock intel heatsink is a nightmare to install, power connectors are also a problem,i would not recommend as a first time build mobo even though its as cheap as chips !!!!
