Full formats
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows Vista

For info - you dont need to do a full format on any hard disk that is new or previously partitioned, this only acts as a surface test as it writes to every sector. Save yourself lots of time and do a quick format. New hard disks have a full surface test before they leave the factory.

Excellent drive, excellent value
review by: Peter Davies operating system: Windows Vista

Just received my 1.5TB drive, and it is as excellent as expected.

It is super super quiet, can't hear a thing from it!

This is currently my second drive in my media centre, sitting next to a Spinpoint 750gb. The drive gives an actual usable drive space of 1397GB, and takes about an hour and a half to format fully first time.

If you are using Vista, remember you need to initialize the drive in disk management before it will show or let you do anything to it.

As usual - even though this is between Xmas and New Year - eBuyer was excellent with delivery times, ordered the drive on Sat 27 Dec, received on Wed 30 Dec under free 5 day delivery.

The drive forms part of my media centre - since the 750GB is full already, and I feel very safe knowing I have only 2 HDDs giving just over 2TB of actual space, rather than several smaller disks (and potentially more risk of corruption). Would def tell others of this drive and will buy more for myself to run as external back ups.

Also, googled before buying, and eBuyer was the cheapest on the market...as usual!

Superb

Bought one of these recently, and have to say I'm very impressed. As the previous reviewer stated - very quiet. This is hard drive number 4 in my gaming/media PC; considering getting another one of these, partitioning it and getting rid of a couple of the others - it truly is a massive beast. Takes forever to format - leave it overnight like I did, you'll then have a fresh HD to wake up to!

Didn't buy from eBuyer as I'm in Japan, although eBuyer's service was always good when I used them before moving. 88 pounds in Japan though - super cheap!

After getting my drive yesterday, i have to say that this drive is amazing. It is very quite, pretty fast! I have found it isnt quite as fast as as my Spinpoint F1's.

Overall, the drive is quite, easy to setup and well its great.

Will be getting more when its full, what a way to increase your storage at a great price.

Vista Machines Not Recognising 1.5TB
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows Vista

Just to say, if you have a Vista Machine that does not seem to work properly with this drive it could down to the following issue:

I have a HP Pavillion S3350.uk (slimline) Media Center PC, and put this drive in as an Upgrade to the machine.

When you try to recover the operating system (using the Recovery Media, or indeed the recovery partition), you will get the following error message:

Error 0x400110020000 1005

If this issue continues contact HP Support.

This is due to the fact that the provided recover CD images from HP do not support the 1.5tb harddrive, (which is in direct contrast to their support documentation on their website which states you can upgrade the machine with *any* hard drive.

The only way around this problem is to get the original hard drive (Or another Blank/Spare HD of under 1TB Capacity however I would recommend 80Gb or less), be careful as the HP recovery process is indiscriminate and will ERASE ALL PARTITIONS on the HD before it starts.

Then you will have to create a 500GB partition on the new 1.5TB HD, and CLONE the original HD to the new 1.5TB HD.

HP DO NOT supply on their website drivers that support SATA Drives OVER 1Tb (This can be bourne out by extending the 500gb partition and it failes at after a size of 1Tb 24Gb.

The only place that you can get the correct drivers from is NVIDA (For my HP S3350 Media Center), once you install those, you will be fine :)

Took a lot of head work to work it out, as HP are quite clueless on this, and blame the recovery media...

I am still waiting for them to solve my issue by providing me with recovery media that support the large drives, I won't hold my Breath!

Silent and Supersized
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows Vista

Just put one of these in my living room media PC. Quietest Drive I have ever come across and with over 1,000 hours of available TV recording space, I am really impressed.

You cannot hear this drive when its in operation and so this is ideal for a home entertainment media PC system. A great drive and nice price from Ebuyer.

Amazing Drives, Knock Down Price
review by: Chris Wilson rating:

I bought two of these drives as they are rated to be the fastest standard HDDs on the market with a high capacity. I'm running them in RAID0 to increase performance and I can say they run spectacularly. They don't run cold but they do run cool, I've got a 12cm fan on the caddy but I dare say it's not necessary.

The throughput on these beauties is wonderful, I can copy HD movies much faster than on my old 2x320GB Seagate RAID and they're almost completely silent while doing so.

No problems so far - 5/5

Very fast and you'd be amazed on how silent this hard drive is...

It's made my startup times on OS X go from 30 seconds to about 20 seconds! Everything in general seems a lot faster compared to the older seagate hard drive I got with my Mac Pro.

Would recommend to any Mac Pro user.

I have two of these drifes, no problems with either in two different PC's. at 89.99 I will buy some more...

..saw some probs on the web with them, I would verify they arrive with the latest firmware before putting data on em... it wouldn't put me off buying them, 5/5.
