StableTrac...
According to WDs site only the 750GB and the 1T have the StableTrac technology...
Great Drive though...
Great HDD
operating system:
OtherI bought this hard drive since I have heard good things particularly with the 640GB version, so I bought one and it's a great hard drive, very fast and silent, you can't hear it seek at all.
I highly recommend this Hard Drive

operating system:
Windows 7This is set as my boot drive, I wanted the 500GB version but it was out of stock and this drive wasn't that much more expensive.
Very quiet.
Very fast compared to my old Maxtor sata drive.
WD6401AALS 640GB
operating system:
Mac OSXnoticeably faster than the 500gb ST3500320AS it replaced, and also after Seagate bricking numerous drives we have here with little recompense and shoddy refurb replacements = WD are getting ALL our money this year.
2 more bays to fill in this macpro 08 octo and another 14 in all
recommend
Minor Setback
operating system:
Windows XPOrdered this drive to replace a discontinued samsung one. Came in 1 day, ill never fault Ebuyer for service :D
BUT when i connected it to my computer it wouldnt show in My Computer, though it would show fine in device manager and bios. After some fiddling about i ended up downloading a program from Western Digital http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=613&sid=1&lang=en ,which when installed told me i didnt have Large Drive Access enabled on my computer thus preventing me from using drives over 137gb. It fixed this in the registry, restarted. Upon restart i used the WD program to set the partition and format the drive. I dont know what id of done if i hadnt found this little program, saved me alot of bother.
Thing that gets me is ive used a 250gb HD on this computer before, lol. Oh well, great drive now though running smooth and fault free so no real complaints. Hope thi helps someone, someday :D
Drive doesnt show up in My Computer in WinXP
Someone had a similar issue with this drive as I have. I'm not sure what program they downloaded, but windows xp has a program to sort it out.
Assuming you are installing this as a secondary drive in an already setup system with windows xp running.
Go to start->run type in diskmgmt.msc and then allocate and initialize the drive, then you can format the drive with the same program.
doa
ordered this but wouldnt format,so rma'd it and was found faulty, expecting new one next week(28/07/09).rma takes a while, but worst thing was the city link driver said they pick up as much retuns as they send out, which makes me kinda worried about this new drive,or anything else ordered.
