Very similar to v2...
review by: Anonymous operating system: Not Applicable

I ordered the v2 when it was reduced in price, only to find the following day this v3 was released... Well I ordered this too, and can honestly say I couldnt find any real difference speedwise between the two. The v3 has a slightly higher quality finish to it, and looks more modern, but it really does feel like the same device in a different case. I'm sure that's not really true though, but dont be afraid to buy the v2. Tomtom v7 installed perfectly on both without a problem. The supplied software isn't all that good, when compared to TomTom. I entered my postcode, confirmed the road, and for some reason it picked a road named the same, but 25 miles away... The way it handles roundabouts is horrible, and the 3d view wasn't very 3d... Although i didnt have much of play with it... I tested it for about 20 mins driving before getting home and installing TomTom! When I got home the v3 was waiting for me, and although the new s/w looks a bit better, it was awfully slow. I've heard that buying a faster SD memory card can make a huge difference, so I might try that.

So, my advice is buy either v2 or this v3, but for the money you can complain because TomTom takes about 5 mins to install! ;-)

Fantastic - Get a Bargain TOM TOM

Have had both Tom Tom 6 and Tom Tom 7 working on this. Tom Tom 7 works better (with version 6 i needed to connect to gps manually each time unit is turned on - not so with V7) Tom Tom 7 works brilliantly, much better than the software on the machine.

Five stars because of tom tom,

Three stars for the unit out of the box.

The only satnav you'll need

What a gem.

This is a brilliant device, worth every penny and then some.

Although not clear on the product description it comes with a 1 gig card too.

Out of the box everything works, and works well. The cradle is better than many I have used before. The whole device looks and feels solid, and the touch screen is top notch.

And once you get tomtom 7 on this product, well there is no competition.

You will not regret buying this product.

In response to saying this product doesnt have any improvements on the v2 i can confirm in fact it does. Its has better graphics newer software as well as lane navigation to name a few. On top of that the unit itself looks much better.

My first experience of Sat Nav so I can't make comparisons, but this unit does everything I want. The set up was simple and use is intuative, which is just as well as the instructions are next to useless! Some things I found by accident such as touching the compass symbol toggles between 2D and 3D views. A brillient bit of kit! I have not tried the MP3, photo player or e-book facilities yet as these were not important to me.

playing music and video
review by: Peter Bartlett operating system: Windows Vista

Hi there I have a v3 I deleted everything from the sd card and installed tomtom 7 with uk maps which works great also copied on to the sd card a folder with an mp3 album and a video in mp4 format straight on the card to play mp3 click on the music icon then you should see the play fwd and rwd keys adove the play button is a backward facing arrow click on this and you will see your mp3 files double click on the first file and they will start to play for video click on video icon in the bottom right hand corner there is a forward facing single bent arrow click on this and you should see your video files double click on the file you want to play and away you go, I have found this to be a great little unit and think people are just needing to get used to the new menu the only problem I have found is that it wont accept sdhc cards but I bought a 4gb standard card and it works fine

Excellent Budget Sat Nav

Bought this based on other users commments and advice from a friend. I originally intended to buy a genuine TomTom 1 but couldn't justify the 100 pound price tag for the number of times I'll use it.

Out of the box the unit is OK, I'd give it 3 out of 5. It's pretty much what you'd expect for 45 - 50 pounds.... but load the TomTom software onto the unit and you've got all the function of a TomTom 1 at less than half the price!

Recommend buying the GPS case to keep everything safe and secure and an extra 1Gb SD card, both are available from Ebuyer and will push the price of your order over the 50 pound limit, so you'll get free delivery!.(The second memory card means you can keep the original SD card supplied with the unit loaded up with the Navigo Maps and have another card for the TomTom stuff).

Overall: Definately worth the money for those on a budget

Great value for the money

Just received this and first impressions are good, looks nice, very compact and easy to use straight out of the box. The screen is nice and clear and sound is loud enough without being too intrusive.

I set up TT7 and UK maps very easily on it and seem to work very well although took a little while to find satellites.

One small gripe is that the time resets itself if you turn off the sat nav, rather than putting it in sleep mode. Not a big problem though as it eventually sets itself once a signal s picked up.

So far so good though.
