Great Overclocker
operating system:
Windows VistaI have used this card for a few months now and ive been well pleased with the performance, it plays all games on max settings including the highly demanding `Crysis Warhead` at screen resolution 1280x1024 but had to drop the AA to 2 for res 1920x1080 and maybe drop the shader and texture to increase fps even though it plays very well on full settings.
I am using `Win`7` dx10 to test my card and im using the ATI overclocking utility CCC to overclock the card. The CCC overdrive utility only clocks the gpu to 1000mhz and the mem controller to 1200mhz but i think that is plenty to increase this card by, and the card max`s to those settings with absolute ease and very little increase in gpu temps. The temps increase slightly with some heavy prolonged game play but not enough to get the fan angry.
I have not used the voltage tweak because i found the included software to be buggy and quite useless and its certainly not needed when using the ATI overdrive facility to clock with, however, it could come in useful if you wanted to do some serious overclocking with this card but you would have to use one of the recommended o/c appz to do it with and then this card would really fly.
In conclusion:
A great card, stable temps, quiet fan when on auto, plays all top games on max at med resolutions, stable high overclocks.
But:
Voltage tweak software is buggy and mine didnt work.
Great card definately deserving of 5 stars
Good value.
operating system:
Windows VistaI ordered the card at about midnight on Monday and it arrived Wednesday on super saver. Nice job ebuyer!
The card itself is fantastic - far quieter than my previous Nvidia 9600GT. The card is quite long - especially when you add the extra room needed for my power cables but, having a large case, this wasn't a problem for me but may be for others.
Performance wise this is fantastic. I decided to buy this when ATI released their DX11s and take advantage of the price drop but frankly it's still an excellent card. I've maxed out Oblivion, Empire Total War and Fallout 3 and still am getting a decent frame rate.
An excellent buy but be careful of the length if your case isn't too big.
Good product at a great price
The 4890 is currently the most cost-effective high-performance graphics card. It can handle all current generation games at up to 1920x1200 with maximum detail (including crysis), though of course anti-aliasing will push it. Being a single GPU product however, it performs well in crossfire mode, and when paired with another 4890 is capable of handling all current games at their highest detail (at 1920x1200+).
Asus is a reliable make and their card is as good as any.
The good, bad, and not so ugly.
operating system:
Windows VistaI bought this card as part of a fairly high spec new build PC. Quad core Phenom II, 4 Gb RAM, RAID 0 discs, running Windows 7 RC.
The good:
Plugged it all together, and the performance of the card is sensational - definitely capable of any of my Steam games I was able to throw at it, all set to maximum detail.
The bad:
My card's fan made an awful rattling / grinding noise at low speeds, making the PC sound like a diesel taxi on idle. Not good. Reluctantly concluded this is a DoA and RMAd it back to eBuyer.
The not so ugly:
I've bought a lot of gear from eBuyer, but have never returned anything until now. I always consider this to be a true test of a company's customer service, so was a little nervous whether I'd be told 'no fault found' since the card technically worked, but had a potentially subjective problem. The good news is, the RMA process was slick, and within 2 weeks from reporting the fault, my problem has been verified, and a new replacement is en-route back to me. Hopefully this will sit peacefully in my new PC, and I can get on with using it.
So, all in I'm very pleased. Four stars instead of five due to the DoA unit, but top marks to eBuyer's service team.
