Fantastic CPU!
operating system:
OtherIve had this CPU for just under 1 month now and this is by far the best Dual Core on the market at the moment for the price/performance ratio.
Once more not only is this a fantastic overclocker, but with abit of research i managed to unlock the 2 cores on this CPU turning it into a Quad Core!
The Phenom II 550 BE becomes an Phenom II X4 B50!
Only if your motherboard supports it however, Not all do. For you to be able to do this you need an AMD Mobo with the SB750 as this will not work with an nForce Mobo. Just enable the Embedded Controller Firmware and set it to Hybrid and enable Advanced Clock Calibration to Auto in your BIOS and away you go.
Once more i couldnt be more pleased, Top product and a fantastic service from ebuyer as usual.
My current setup;
Windows 7 Ultimate.
AMD Phenom II 550 BE > AMD Phenom II X4 B50
Sapphire AM2RS790GX Mobo
4GB OCZ Platinum OC'd Edition
ATI HD 4670 (temporary)
120GB SATA II HDD
Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
700w Arctic Power PSU
Antec Skeleton Case
amazing
This is AMDs best dual cor and is as good as trhe intels e7 and some e8 series. at stock its at 3.1 ghz. so far im up to 3.7 ghz. really this is an amazing little chip. i upgraded from the amd 6000 brisbane 65nm. this chip is 45nm and overclocks nicely. ill b getting a new cooler soon as i am using the amd stock cooler and heatsink and i reckon i will asy get close to 4ghz with that.
Processor really shines
Wow this processor really shines when it comes to gaming. Indeed for a dual core, it does do very well, and on price comparison does beat most of the intel E' series processors.
For gaming its great, but for video processing no. also great for Audio encoding.
Strange how the phenom x2 550 seems to beat the phenom II x720 on compressing files using WinRar.
Overal great gaming CPU.
Stupidly good...
operating system:
Windows VistaWell, Thomas is right for a start, overclocks very nicely. I have upgraded from the AMD 6400 BE 90nm @ 3.2, which ran rather hot (47c idle). This at stock when idle hovers around 27c for me which is pretty good. Been overclocking during today and currently have it at 3.71GHz idling around 36c with the AC Freezer 64 Pro (# 101471). If you are not wanting to spend loads to upgrade to AM3 then this will get you in the market quite nicely, it does game very well so no problems there either. It DOES come with a heatsink/fan just incase any others are wondering, but if you are planning to overclock get a better HS/Fan. For those of you who think its a failed quad core and are put off by that, don't be, because it's a fantastic little dual core which for cost to power ratio is brilliant! 5 Starts from me.
quad core
alot of people don't know this but sometimes because AMD insted of manufacturing standard dual cores, to save money they use quad core cpus but disable 2 cores so if you know how to unlock the extra two cores when you have a 70 quid quad core which are almost as good as the usual phenom quad cores (unlocking cores works with the phenom II X3's also) but i suggest do your reasearch before attempting to do this
A great processor
operating system:
Windows VistaSuch a great processor and very fast too, Just be sure to buy a seperate heat sink and fan for it as the one supplied is rather noisey.
apart from that though its a fast processor
Excellent CPU
operating system:
Windows VistaVery happy with this cpu.
Overclocks to 3.7GHz without any hassle. Just by increasing multipliers.
Also some people have turned this into a quad core somehow.
Dont know how but its other 2 cores are locked any can be unlocked so its a quad core and i think then it over clocks to 4.05Ghz ! On normal active air cooling !
Seriously its amazing.
Worth every penny.
:)
Comes with heatsink?
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if this CPU comes with a heatsink/fan included? I know some do and some dont so i thought i'd check :).
thanks :)
great cpu
operating system:
Windows XPIs a AM3 socket but have used it on a gigabyte M61P-S3 REV.1.0 AM2 motherboard, works great although the AM3 isnt listed as being supported for this board, used latest bios F7F from there site before installing it and it does come with a heatsink/fan and pre-applied paste pad
Very impressed
operating system:
Windows VistaI've got this CPU running with an Asus M3N-H HDMI mainboard and decided to give it an overclock.
I've left the voltage and frequency at stock, but changed the multiplier from 15.5x (stock) to 19.0x, going from the stock 3100Mhz to 3800Mhz.
The PC is stable with this configuration, I'm using stock cooling and a single case fan, and the CPU runs at 52 degC under load.
I'm very happy with this CPU, it's given me great performance with the price and now I'm going to have a fiddle with the voltage and frequency to try and squeeze a bit more out of it.
