Stunning

This is a fantastic processor for the price. Performs very similarly to the Phenom II X2.

For reference it almost meets the performance of a core 2 duo E8400 (approx 5% slower in most tests, but faster in some).

However, it does so at HALF the price. quite literally. Plus with all the improvements of the Phenom II architecture and 45nm process, it overclocks exceptionally well, up to 3.8GHz air cooled.

It also performs similarly to the older phenom triple cores, making them even less desirable, as this core will run single threaded apps much faster.

Overall this is probably one of the best value for money chips around.

Ebuyer could do with moving it to the right category though. This is an AM3 processor, not AM2.

Does support DDR3 1600MHz!!
review by: Anonymous operating system: Not Applicable

I can confirm that this processor does support DDR3 1600MHz in a 2x2048MB configuration and runs at 1600Mhz on an ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO.

I would recommend using Patriot G Series memory, PGS34G1600LLKA

Which is a 4GB DDR3 1600MHz dual channel kit with low latencies of 7-7-7-20 @ 1.7v

I have now got this working with 1066Mhz DDR2 memory. However, this required changing the BIOS setting on my motherboard to increase the multiplier from 2.0 to 2.66, as the default limits to 800 Mhz.

Very fast, currently running at 29C without any direct cooling.

Type of Memory Supported

X2 - Support for unregistered DIMMs up to PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066MHz) -AND- PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066MHz)

X3 and X4 - Support for unregistered DIMMs up to PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066MHz) -AND- PC3 10600 (DDR3-1333MHz)

so please don't listen to the above in regards to this product CPU is fast for the price give a windows 7 64 bit score of 6.4 without overclocking

DDR2 Memory
review by: Derrick McClelland rating:

operating system: Windows XP

DDR2 memory is limited to 800 Mhz regardless of your motherboard, as the memory controller is on the CPU. Also, only use 2 sticks, otherwise you are limited to 533 Mhz.

DDR3 is limited to 1066 Mhz.

I chose this as a high speed but low power (3.0 Ghz/65W) CPU but think that the memory limitation should be included in the product specs.

Wrong
review by: Anonymous operating system: Not Applicable

The person saying the memory is limited to 800MHz DDR2 and 1066MHz DDR3 is not correct.

The CPU is capable of running DDR2 at 1066MHz and DDR 3 at 1333MHz

It says so on the AMD site, and several benchmarks have been published with memory at those speeds.

The motherboard does come into play as some boards don't support the latest speeds in the slots.
